YOUR
VOICE
– A RESOUNDING
‘YES!’
‘The Personal Party’ carries the day
in mock election with Education
Minister, Nick Boles MP
The inaugural YOUR Voice Conference for
Young People was a great success, with
competing schools and colleges getting to
grips with topical policy issues and the
democratic process.
Stoke Rochford Hall was the suitably aweinspiring
venue where the teams of young
people, each having devised their own political
‘party’, slogan and manifesto, promoted policy
ideas on current issues through debate and
impressive social media campaigns. The day
culminated in a mock election.
Representing North Hykeham Joint Sixth Form,
The Personal Party prevailed in a tight ballot,
with a witty and sophisticated slogan that
pointed to the high standard of thinking on
show: “We’re not left, we’re not right, but we’re
certainly not wrong”.
During the day’s miniature ‘Twitter storm’,
Student Union President at Bishop Grosseteste
University Chris Robertson referred to YOUR
Voice (@yvlincs2015) as a, “Huge step
forward for youth engagement in politics in
Lincolnshire”. All present had to agree! “Every
young person was totally engaged,” said The
EBP CE Elaine Lilley.
Some of the region’s most senior business
people made themselves available to join a
Question Time-style panel including Richard
Davies, Executive Member for Highways and
Transportation at Lincolnshire County Council.
Local MP and Minister of State jointly for the
Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
and the Department for Education Nick Boles
also joined the panel. Educationalist and Labour
parliamentary candidate Dr Jason Pandya-Wood
mentored participants.
GROWING
POTENTIAL
New packages build skills through
unique experiences
This year The EBP launched an exciting portfolio of
products for schools under the banner of Potential for
Growth. Packages cover a variety of subjects and skillsets,
are tailored for age groups through primary and secondary
and adapted to suit individual schools’ requirements.
Here are just a few products trialled recently at local
schools, with some great feedback so far:
GAME OF TWO HALVES
Students investigate roles, responsibilities
and real life situations at a football club,
gaining insight into the business through
a series of practical literacy and numeracy
challenges.
A fantastic morning. It was
great to see all children engaged
in some very purposeful
activities that developed
everyone’s learning
Ben Carver,
The Meadows Primary School
DESTINATION ANYWHERE
Students are taken on a journey to
experience everything involved in planning
an event for a topical occasion or major
venue in the local area, highlighting the
variety of tourism in Lincolnshire.
Children loved the activities
Kate Harrison,
Fishtoft Academy
YOUNG TRADERS
Students work in teams to establish their
own business model. This can be delivered
in school as a full day activity, or as a
series of events over the course of a term.
The students thoroughly
enjoyed the day and the
staff were fantastic
