More young people take advantage of one-off opportunities
The EBP’s Investors In Education (IIE) Awards celebrate local
businesses that exceed expectations, to offer inspiring work
experience opportunities to students. The awards recognise that
companies which schools find easy and rewarding to work with
can make a real difference for young people considering future
career options.
Pete Cohen is the perfect person to talk about people and
organisations going ‘the extra mile’. One of the country’s leading
motivational speakers, he coaches top business leaders as
well as sporting stars like Sally Gunnell, Ronnie O’Sullivan and
Arsenal FC to achieve their best. Known as one of television’s
most motivational personalities, Pete has worked on all major
channels, including starring as GMTV’s resident life coach.
Schools nominated their top 70 of the 4,000 employers
supporting The EBP programme, to be honoured at the
Awards Ceremony on 21st May at Belton Woods Hotel.
The EBP congratulates all nominated employers for providing
such outstanding support to young people. We also thank
all businesses taking part in work experience and look
forward to celebrating this crucial partnership between
schools and employers.
The National Citizen Service offers
once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for year
11 and 12 students to develop new skills,
unlock their personal potential and leave
a positive footprint in local communities.
The programme has more resonance
than ever, given its clear links to character
education, as discussed at The EBP
conference (see p.6).
This spring over 350 students took part
in NCS across Lincolnshire, Rutland,
Leicestershire and Northamptonshire
(EM1). The short programmes were
a great experience for all, resulting
in a variety of social action projects
from regenerating outdoor spaces and
renovating youth centres, to volunteering
in care homes and raising money for
worthy causes.
