Neschen AG products have been used successfully in the libraries
and archives sector for decades. Many sales channels with
high turnover and high profit margins have evolved over that
period. Solutions that are brought about with the aid of our
range of products can be found all over the world. Nevertheless,
the potentials of a stagnant market appear to be limited.
The fact that we are continuing to grow in spite of this is due
to the inventiveness of Neschen product management and our
customers. As a result, substantial niche markets have evolved
recently from the application of our existing products in other
sectors and sales markets, some of which we would now like
to introduce to you by way of example.
filmoplast ® P90
This is a tear-resistant, ageing-resistant adhesive tape made of
wood-free special paper that was chiefly developed for bookbinders
and is ideally used for reinforcing book hinges. Our
customers also appreciate the fact that it is possible to stick
torn-out pages back in and repair damaged edges.
Owing to the alkaline reserve in the glue this repair tape soon
met with a positive response among picture framers. filmoplast
® P90 became popular especially in so-called „conservation
framing“ – not only in the North American market – and
it is used as a tear-resistant tape for fixing originals to passepartout
or for taping frames.

This
has opened
up a niche
market that nobody had
ever seriously considered.
Meanwhile, all our filmoplast repair tapes and even
double-sided adhesives have been an essential part of framing
work for many years now.
filmolux ® 609
Book protection film filmolux 609 is used in the field of professional
book lamination (on machines as well) all over the world.
With this „protective skin“ books are protected against the
stresses of everyday library operations and remain available for
use much longer. This relieves the already highly limited budgets
of libraries so there is no need to bear the extra cost of
short-lived new acquisitions.
With smaller sizes this book protection film is also very popular
in pharmacies. Narrow rolls with a width of 2 cm to 10 cm
together with tape dispenser TA2 are an ideal combination in
order to protect labels on jars and bottles. Labels that have
been handwritten or printed with a conventional inkjet printer
bear valuable information such as ingredients, dose and shelf
life. They can become blurred or disappear if the contents get
spilled over the labels when being taken. Owing to the high
adhesive strength of filmolux 609 the protection is maintained
for a long time and the information thus remains permanently
legible.
filmolux ® H200
The rigid PVC film, filmolux H200 (or H250), is normally used to
reinforce the inside of paperback covers. Art and craft shops
offer this film to make decorative lampshades though. For this
purpose, motifs are made (using rice paper or serviettes) or
painted and then affixed to the selfadhesive
back, provided with holes,
tied and equipped with a light bulb,
fairy lights or LEDs. The normal price
per square metre for self-adhesive
lampshade film is far more expensive
than identical book protection film so
this allows a high profit margin for
dealers.

filmolux ® S 23
Photographs have been enhanced with our glossy, UV-protective
high-performance film, filmolux ® S23, for many years
now. This extremely thin (23-micron) but tear-resistant product
made of polyester is also used at the scene of crimes being
investigated by police detectives and forensic medicine experts.
For this application the film is divided into small pieces
(10 cm x 13 cm), given a pre-cut and then packed in bags of
25 each. The bags are then included in a field case that contains
all the necessary materials (brush, powder, gloves, roller,
etc.) for professional preservation of trace evidence at the
scene of a crime. This high-performance film with top-quality
adhesive makes it possible to store evidence in police archives
for decades.
filmolux ® soft PP
filmolux ® soft PP is an environmentally friendly book protection
film that allows adjustment for several hours and only reaches
full permanent adhesive strength after 1-2 days. With
this product it is very easy, especially for novices, to protect
books in a professional manner. There is another application in
a completely different area, scrap-booking, where keepsakes
such as photographs, picture postcards, newspaper cuttings,
admission tickets, travel tickets, or even coins or pressed flowers
and other decorative items, are stuck into a kind of photo
album and then laminated with
an A4 piece of our product. This
application has been very popular,
chiefly in the USA so far, and it
remains to be seen who is going
to be the first to market the fashion
in Europe …
gudy ® 831
The double-sided adhesive tape
gudy ® 831 is one of our products
that is mainly used in the graphic
arts industry to mount photographs
or prints on Forex sheets,
walls, windows and a very wide range of other surfaces. As with
all our products, the glue does not contain any acids or solvents
and the base material is long-fibre white paper. This item is one
of the few double-sided adhesives that have passed the highstandard
PAT (Photographic Activity Test) so gudy ® 831 soon
arouses interest in the field of conservation and archiving, but
also in galleries and museum
A case in point shows how, on account of a new legal regulation
in New Zealand, all the materials used have to meet high demands.
The manufacturer of so-called solander boxes, which
are used for storing and transporting rare works of art and also
rare books and documents, uses gudy ® 831.
In the manufacturing process acid-free cardboard is glued onto
a wooden case using gudy ® 831. Solander boxes are themselves
well-protected against the ageing process and also prevent harmful
influences from the environment and from the material of the
box from having a detrimental effect on the valuable objects.
This is just a small selection of the creative options available as a
result of Neschen products, provided one is familiar with them.
At this point it is worth mentioning that filmolux H200 is already
being used as a sticker for the blind on which Braille is punched
into the film.
filmoplast ® T is not only used for repairing damaged spines of
books – it can also be used to reinforce the back of maps and
considerably prolong the life of them, especially if they are rolled
up frequently. It is equally possible to enhance the appearance
of wooden boxes and storage containers by providing them
with a kind of „dress“ in the eight different colours available.
filmomatt ® is not only used as nonreflecting
book protection film but has
an equivalent application in the field of
photo lamination. It is also used, for
example, to protect construction drawings,
maps and navigation charts
against rain and dirt.
Heat-seal film filmoplast ® R is normally
an integral part of the material required
for restoration and conservation in archives.
This long-fibre Japanese vellum,
however, is equally suitable for repairing
damaged paper that is used like punched cards in antique mechanical
musical instruments.
