Goals:<br />
- 4-H participants to be provided a fun educational opportunity to increase life skills<br />
- 4-H participants to increase their sense of belonging in the <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Martin</strong> <strong>Parish</strong> 4-H<br />
program<br />
- 4-H participants to increase their awareness of science-related topics<br />
Objectives:<br />
- To celebrate accomplishments of 4-H members and clubs this 4-H year.<br />
- To increase communication, teamwork and critical thinking skills through speech and<br />
demonstration contests<br />
- To increase the use of creativity and problem solving skills through exhibit contests<br />
- To increase awareness of science topics through experiential, educational sessions<br />
focused on science-related topics<br />
- To increase sense of belonging to <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Martin</strong> <strong>Parish</strong> 4-H members by allowing all<br />
members in attendance to participate in <strong>Achievement</strong> <strong>Day</strong> events<br />
- To increase 4-H awareness to 4-H club leader volunteers, general volunteers, and 4-<br />
H parents/family members.<br />
What is <strong>Achievement</strong> <strong>Day</strong>?<br />
A reward for being a 4-H member during the 2010-2011 school year, <strong>Achievement</strong> <strong>Day</strong> is a<br />
mixture of contests and fun sessions that will focus on science-related topics. The day<br />
ends with a yell contest and club awards being given out. 4-H members from all 36 clubs<br />
will be there. Don’t miss out on the fun!<br />
How do I go?<br />
Turn in a completed 4-H Portfolio and Project Book for judging by March 1, 2011 or turn in a<br />
completed 4-H Portfolio and Project Book that will not be judged by April 1, 2011.<br />
Transportation will be set up by your club leader.<br />
What do I wear?<br />
All 4-H’ers attending <strong>Achievement</strong> <strong>Day</strong> must follow the dress code. Pants: wear school<br />
uniform pants or navy blue dress pants. Shirt: wear 4-H shirt or school uniform shirt. With<br />
the approval of the 4-H leader and principal, 4-H clubs may allow students to wear their<br />
school’s approved spirit day clothes.<br />
What opportunities are offered at <strong>Achievement</strong> <strong>Day</strong> for 4-H members?<br />
There are many contests and Fun Sessions they can participate in:<br />
1. Exhibits<br />
2. Show & Tell Demonstrations (pre-register with club leader)<br />
3. 4-H Talks (pre-register with club leader)<br />
4. Fun Sessions<br />
5. Yell Contest (prepared as a club with club leader)<br />

EXHIBITS: Club members may enter up to 3 exhibits at <strong>Achievement</strong> <strong>Day</strong>, but the<br />
exhibits must be in different divisions.<br />
1. Exhibits are to be made by the 4-H member prior to <strong>Achievement</strong> <strong>Day</strong>. Parents may<br />
help with the exhibit, but most of the work must be done by the 4-H member.<br />
2. <strong>St</strong>udent name, club name, and division must be put on each exhibit.<br />
3. In the cookie category: turn in 3 cookies on a paper plate covered with plastic wrap.<br />
*Please note: No peanut butter cookies due to food allergies.<br />

Show and Tell: A brief demonstration (5 minute time limit) by a team of two people on<br />
any topic. The show and tell demonstration should show how to do something and have a<br />
finished product. For example: How to make a ham sandwich.<br />
MUST PRE-REGISTER WITH CLUB LEADER!<br />
Categories: Food and Non Food Show and Tell demonstrations.<br />
Club Limit: Each club may enter a maximum of 5 teams in each category.<br />
4-H Talks: Individuals or teams of two give a three (3) minute talk or speech on any<br />
4-H activity or topic. (4-H Fall Fest, SUPER Saturday Contest <strong>Day</strong>, SET Fun <strong>Day</strong>, Paint the<br />
School Green Contest, attending 4-H Meetings, Christmas Cookie and Ornament contest,<br />
etc.). Visual aids such as posters may be used.<br />

Club Limit: Each club may enter up to 10 talks.<br />
FUN SESSIONS: new this year!<br />
In an effort to make <strong>Achievement</strong> <strong>Day</strong> more interactive, educational and fun this year, we<br />
are offering sessions that will raise awareness of select science-related topics.<br />
Rotations and club assignments will be sent to you prior to <strong>Achievement</strong> <strong>Day</strong>.<br />
Yell Contest: Entire club gives a “chant” or “cheer” about their 4-H club. Props may be<br />
used. There is a time limit of 3 minutes. The yell will be judged on theme, group<br />
participation, general appearance, and presentation. No adults may direct the yell or be<br />
assisting the club members from the floor.<br />
NOTE: This contest is intended to give your 4-H’ers a SENSE OF BELONGING! Winners<br />
of this contest will be announced at <strong>Achievement</strong> <strong>Day</strong> and winning clubs will receive a<br />
ribbon; however, points WILL NOT be awarded for this contest.<br />
