Application Procedures
**(updated 10/8/09) based on revised CDE requirements
What do I need to know about applying?
There are three separate applications, sent to three separate institutions that must be
completed:
1. Colorado Department of Education application for “One-year Alternative License”
2. Stanley BPS Teacher Preparation Program application
3. University of Colorado Denver application for Master’s Program
**A specialized application will be given to you from our University liaison.
You do not need to apply to UCD at this time.
Colorado Department of Education Alternative Licensing Process—Please begin as
soon as possible
*Licensure through the Stanley British Primary School Teacher Preparation Program is
dependent on receiving a Statement of Eligibility (SOE). Candidates must have been
issued their SOE from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) by March 1, 2011
in order to be offered a contract for the 2011-12 academic year.
The following content requirements must be met for approval of your Statement of
Eligibility:
For Elementary Education:
• Completed application and fingerprints (items #1 and #2 below)
• Passing score on required content exam (PLACE or Praxis II— see information
below, #3)
For ECE:
• Completed application and fingerprints (items #1 and #2 below)
• Passing score on required content exam (PLACE— see information below, #3)
OR
• Transcript review: Completed 24 hours of coursework content area in specific
areas required (with a GPA of at least 2.6)

Colorado Department of Education: One-Year Alternative License Application
1. Visit the Colorado Department of Education website for important information
about Alternative Licensure. The state requires this one-year license to work in the
Alternative Licensure Program.

2. Complete Fingerprints and submit to CBI
3. Sign up for the PLACE or Praxis II exam.

What is the difference between the PLACE exam and the PRAXIS II Exam?
Both are content area assessment tests. PLACE was designed and developed for
Colorado. Praxis II is a nationwide test. Recently, Colorado started accepting Praxis II.
The content area in which you choose to test (Elementary Education or Early Childhood
Education) will determine your area of licensure.

4. Order your official transcripts.
For ECE candidates, transcripts will be evaluated for coursework in the following
subject areas:
Early Childhood Education License
English Literature (3 semester hrs.)
English Composition (3 semester hrs.)
Mathematics (3 semester hrs.)
Natural Sciences (3 semester hrs.)
Social Studies (3 semester hrs.)
Arts/Humanities (3 semester hrs.)
Physical Education/Health (3 semester hrs.)
Early Childhood Development (3 semester hrs.)
**Coursework Requirements
If you currently have not taken all the required coursework, you may fulfill this
requirement by either taking a 3-credit hour course from any accredited college, or you
may test out by taking the CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) or the DSST
(DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) in the subject area needed.

CDE will notify you if any additional coursework is required. Please make up any
deficiency as soon as possible.
Note that life skills are also taken into consideration by the State review board as well as
high school AP classes. Cover letter, resume, and work experiences that pertain to your
licensure area may be added to help determine if you meet the necessary coursework.
Include course descriptions for courses that need clarification (i.e. engineering classes,
humanities classes, or seminars), but CDE asks that you do not send the entire course
catalog.
**Please note: It may take 10-12 weeks for the transcript evaluation. We encourage you
to order transcripts and begin this application process immediately.

Stanley BPS Teacher Preparation Program Application
You do NOT need to wait for the CDE or PLACE or Praxis test results to apply to the Stanley
British Primary School Teacher Preparation Program. Results from the CDE and testing
facilities may take up to 10-12 weeks. Please plan accordingly AND check on the
status of your application with CDE on a regular basis.
Tours
Teacher Preparation Program tours are given monthly; applicants are highly encouraged
to schedule a tour prior to the spring interviews. Please contact Gina Bernacchi at 303-
360-0803, ext. 183 to schedule a tour prior to the spring interviews. Candidates who are
chosen for an interview must be willing to visit Stanley British Primary School at his or
her own expense for interview dates in February or March.

Qualifications
Applicants must:
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree
• Submit Stanley BPS Teacher Preparation Program application
• Submit CDE Alternative Licensure application
• Demonstrate effective communication skills
• Attend a tour to meet program staff and obtain program information
**Some experience working with children is desirable but not required
Selection
Final selection is based on a number of factors, including an interview, observation in
the classroom, written and verbal skills, potential contribution to the group experience,
and Statement of Eligibility (SOE) from the Colorado Department of Education. Stanley

1. _____ A completed CDE fingerprint card and processing fee must be submitted
directly to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Please print out the instructions
for completion and fee sheet. Your Statement of Eligibility cannot be issued until
CDE has received proof of fingerprint receipt from CBI.

3. _____ Non-refundable application processing fee of $60 (see CDE website).
Payment by Credit/Debit card only. Include a copy of your Receipt with your application
(downloaded at the time you pay your evaluation fee).
4. _____ Passing score on either the PLACE test (Elementary Education Content
Knowledge or Early Childhood Education) or Praxis II test (Elementary Education
Content Knowledge). The content area in which you choose to test will determine
your area of licensure.
5. _____ Official transcript(s) from the college(s) or university(s) where the
coursework was completed. CDE requires an official transcript showing Bachelor’s
degree and date conferred. An official transcript bears the seal of the institution and
the signature of the registrar. Official transcripts with the registrar’s seal and stamped
“Issued to the Student” will be accepted. Photocopies will not be accepted. You should
include transcripts from those colleges from which transfer credit was accepted. Please
include official transcripts with your application to the CDE; do not send separately.
