Les Cars Rouge claim to have commenced 7/91 with four LPG-fuelled ex-Vienna ÖAF (MAN) DDH200 / G&S
deckers. More of these vehicles were added to the fleet over the years but it’s unclear if they were acquired at
those times or if they had been stockpiled earlier and registered when needed. Early operations ran under the
name ‘Paris Bus’. Until 1999 the fleet was garaged with Société Versaillaise de Transports Urbains (SVTU), the
municipal operator for Versailles, and appropriate Département 78 registrations were carried – 321-30 carried
4800 VQ 78, 3719 WR 78, 3226 XE 78, 1918 XS 78, 8794 XX 78, 5100 XZ 78, 9120 YP 78, 9118 YP 78, 3774
YR 78, 2086 ZW 78 respectively. In 1999 the domicile moved to Paris and 321-30 were re-registered with the
‘75’ plates noted above. As the modern open-toppers arrived the ÖAF were quickly stored and the last are
reported to have run in early 2003.
321-335 are believed to have retained their original seating arrangements and operated as closed-top, although
some or all had a small sunroof with canvas cover added to give some ‘wind in the hair’ feel.
A fifth ÖAF went to City Sightseeing Oslo A/S, chassis number 809-0036, which is likely to have been 331.
357 operated the ‘Versailles Tour’ for SVTU in 2005, carrying SVTU fleetnumber 998.
376-378 have chassis numbers YV3R7G4174A001644-6 and EL body numbers 48301-3, order unknown.
A number of the Vo B7L EL went on loan to the associated Trambus Open in Rome – see 810-OJ-161.
There have been no known sightings at all of 563 QGP 75 or 595 QGP 75 (807-OJ-83) in Paris and it is not
known where these buses have operated but it is possible that these were diverted when new to Trambus Open
in Rome where they would carry Italian plates (see 810-OJ-161).
Les Cars Rouge is associated with Open Top Sightseeing Inc which has operations in the USA at Las Vegas,
San Francisco and Washington DC.
