Fun events for the
Worthing & Sussex Branch
The Branch has had a
busy summer with a
Barbecue, a Treasure
Hunt and a Get-
Together.
Our 45th barbecue fell
on a lovely day in July.
There were about 72
hungry tummies to fill
this year so the cooks
got cooking and the helpers got serving, and all
were very satisfied indeed. To top it all the weather
was almost perfect.
We had a few fundraising stalls in the garden,
raising £269, so it was also a profitable day as well.
Many thanks to all those involved.
On 19 August we held a Treasure Hunt around
the old historic fishing village of Shoreham by
Sea. Barbara had spent many hours on Google
Earth working on the clues for the treasure hunt
The Anniversary Lunch and AGM combined
‘meeting’ was a good start to another happy
and successful year for our Group.
The highlight was a fundraising effort that
caused much organising and nail-biting. One
of our members is a well known drummer
who has been associated with the Merseybeat
sound ever since it began. Five bands came to
give us a 60s night to remember! The proceeds
were shared with the British Heart Foundation.
As we had also made some collections at
supermarkets during the summer we were
able to send £700 to Central Office – and keep
a little for ourselves.

us an hour and a half
or so and we really
enjoyed the challenge.
As it happens, another
treasure hunt was organised by a different group
that day, and we bumped into fellow treasure
hunters all afternoon.
At our Get-Together on 1 September, the
Timespan team was invited along to give us a
talk all about the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and
came with all the memorabilia that involved.
They were greeted by a packed hall of enthusiastic
polio members and friends who were entertained
and enlightened by the Timespan team.

Wales Group
Time at meetings not dedicated to discussions
on tickets, posters, raffle, local radio etc was
also filled with interest. We had talks on reiki
and acupuncture, the history and work of Lions
International, Vasovagal syncope (a nervous
condition), diving and the bends, and the
life of our Group President, Sir Bert Massie.
We also had an outing to Gordale Garden
Centre where we had a seasonal talk and
advice session and tea.
Several new members have recently joined us.
We hope they will be happy in our Group – if
they can stand the pace!
