COACHING SKILLS
COACHING & MENTORING
3 +
H
A basic introduction to coaching skills. Teams
learn not to be judgemental, that you must
avoid TELLING others what to do and that the
coach is not the expert but more of a guide
and counsellor who needs to be able to listen,
empathise and encourage.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
33
to understand the basic skills of coaching
33
to see the importance of establishing
rapport
33
to realise that coaching is a two-way
process to understand the need to
encourage people to find their own
solutions
33
to realise that a coach should ASK and
not TELL
3 +
H
This hands-on exercise provides a fun, nonthreatening
environment in which to develop
coaching skills. Good coaching is not easy - the
coach needs an ability to listen, to demonstrate
active listening, to show empathy, to be able
to see things from another’s point of view as
well as not being judgmental, all-knowing or
the ‘expert’. To many people, coaching does not
come naturally, but it’s easier once you know
how!
