Many games and fun were also had during the week of camp
that wonderful? Tim McGhie, who helped
with the kids’ programme, said “I was
delighted to see the excitement and interest
within the young children in our group,
as they learnt more about what Jesus has
done for them. It also was great to see the
smiling faces of the families when they
arrived each morning and left St Paul’s at
the end of each session.”
The other thrilling outcome of the weekend
was having activities for the older youth as
well. A number of fantastic Bible studies took
place and it was a real opportunity for the
teenagers in Holbrook to meet with Christian
teenagers who were fun to be with and
took their faith seriously. That is definitely
something to rejoice in. One of the young
people commented “You guys are so cool,
you’re so into God and you’re so relatable.” It
was great that the Holbrook teens were able
to hang out with the team members at the
pizza night and later have so much fun at
the bush dance. Although in one sense they
encroached on team time, I think allowing
them to hang out with the team was quite a
valuable ministry in itself. Dave Abraham was
one of the youth leaders and he said “I was
really encouraged by seeing our teenagers
sharing Jesus, and their lives, with the teens in
Holbrook. They did so in a very real way which
showed they cared about people and that
following Jesus was really good news.” Norm
Barker (now 62), who also helped out with
the leaders of the trip, said “I was an honorary
young bloke for the week. It was exciting
and a great privilege to serve with a fantastic
group of young leaders. They had Jesus at the
centre of all they did and that made a huge
impact on the children.”
