bus<strong>in</strong>ess from a commercial location or<br />
your home<br />
• The Department <strong>of</strong> Build<strong>in</strong>g, Plann<strong>in</strong>g &<br />
Zon<strong>in</strong>g (BP&Z) is your first stop. You will<br />
need to obta<strong>in</strong> either:<br />
–a Certificate <strong>of</strong> Zon<strong>in</strong>g Approval (commercial locations)<br />
-or-<br />
–a Home Occupation Permit
Commercial Locations<br />
• Speak with the Zon<strong>in</strong>g Adm<strong>in</strong>istrator to ensure<br />
that the <strong>in</strong>tended bus<strong>in</strong>ess use <strong>of</strong> the space you<br />
are purchas<strong>in</strong>g or leas<strong>in</strong>g is allowed<br />
• Speak with an <strong>in</strong>spector while at BP&Z if you are<br />
plann<strong>in</strong>g to make changes to the structure - you<br />
may need build<strong>in</strong>g or trade permits<br />
• Prior to occupy<strong>in</strong>g a newly constructed build<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
or if you are chang<strong>in</strong>g the “use group” <strong>of</strong> an<br />
exist<strong>in</strong>g build<strong>in</strong>g, a Certificate <strong>of</strong> Occupancy will<br />
be required<br />
• BP&Z will issue your Certificate <strong>of</strong> Zon<strong>in</strong>g<br />
