Health is essential for all of us. eventually,
the state of health of a country shows in
its life expectancy and demographics. Germany
is an excellent example for that. life
expectancy in Germany increased in recent
years by about a month every three years.
apart from a growing consciousness for a
healthier lifestyle this is certainly due to
the state-of-the-art research and development
and the resulting high quality of
healthcare in Germany. This is a fact very
well known in the arab region, particularly
in the united arab emirates. His Highness
sheikh mohammed bin rashid al maktoum,
ruler of dubai, recently named his
wife, Her royal Highness princess Haya
bint al Hussein, chairperson of the board
of the most important healthcare body of
the emirate. so dubai visibly attaches great
importance to the healthcare of its local
population. The united arab emirates have
meanwhile reached a life expectancy rate
very close to highly developed countries
like ours.
60 % of all patients the Dubai Health Authority
is sending abroad for medical treatment is
going to Germany. Clinics in our country can
offer in most cases “tailor-made“ comprehensive
treatment for all illnesses under one roof
without the need for “clinic hopping“. The
fact that many Emiratis take along their families
when they travel to Germany for medical
treatment is a pleasant by-product for Germany’s
hospitality industry. But Germany is

not only a sought-after destination for Emirati
patients. The number of highly qualified
medical personnel from Germany in the clinics
of Dubai and other emirates is showing
that a continuous transfer of medical knowhow
is taking place. The same applies to the
transfer of technology. The medical equipment
of clinics in the United Arab Emirates
to a large extent originates from Germany.
In this field you find not just the world-renowned
big players, the ones you see e.g.
as German platinum sponsors of Arab Health,
but many so-called small and medium-sized
hidden champions in Germany’s healthcare
equipment industry. Many of them are traditionally
represented at the Arab Health, the
second largest healthcare trade show in the
world, second only to Medica in Düsseldorf.
For Germany Arab Health is one of the most
important trade fairs in Dubai. Like last year
the Federal Minister of Health will be present
to underline the significance of the event.
Several ministers and high-ranking officials
from many German federal states will attend,
not just as visitors, but bringing along experts
for seminars and conferences organized
by them in the framework of Arab Health.
Like in recent years Germany is present at the
37th Arab Health with the largest number
of foreign exhibitors. Let me thank Hamburg
Messe und Congress GmbH, the organizers
of the German pavilion, which were supported
by the Federal Ministry of Economics and
Technology and AUMA - the Association of
German Trade Fair Industry as well as several
related industry associations, GHE – the German
Healthcare Export Group, NuMOV – the
German Near and Middle East Association,
Spectaris – the German Industry Association
for Optical, Medical and Mechatronical Technologies
and ZVEI – the German Electrical
and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association.
But before all let me wish the more than 300
German exhibitors at this year’s edition of
Arab Health lots of success in maintaining,
enlarging and intensifying existing contacts
and explore the opportunities for new contacts
in the region. I think this will create a
real win-win relationship, not just in terms of
both partners in business, but for the people
in general.
