<strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>Manager</strong>:<br />

Introduction<br />

The <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong> <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>Manager</strong>, will be responsible for leading<br />

tennis development programs and activities to help achieve the mission of increasing<br />

tennis participation through the development of community, school, and club tennis<br />

programs, players and leaders in <strong>Manitoba</strong> The position will report directly to the<br />

Executive Director <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong> and be managed jointly by <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong> and<br />

<strong>Tennis</strong> Canada's <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Development</strong> Department.<br />

Job Description and Responsibilities (under joint management of <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong> -<br />

<strong>Tennis</strong> Canada partnership)<br />

The <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>Manager</strong> will lead the coordination, delivery, development and<br />

evaluation of <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong>/<strong>Tennis</strong> Canada grassroots community development and<br />

U12 grass roots coaching and program development. This concentrates on developing<br />

the first three stages (Active start, Fundamentals, Developing) of the Long Term Athlete<br />

<strong>Development</strong> Plan.<br />

This includes training and increasing the quality/number of certified/volunteer coaches<br />

to deliver programs and leagues in the communities, schools, clubs, and park and<br />

recreation agencies.<br />

Additional duties include building & supporting the recreation and introductory<br />

competitive stream programs to include Community Team <strong>Tennis</strong>, Rookie Tours, High<br />

School <strong>Tennis</strong>, and Progressive <strong>Tennis</strong> competitions. Specific responsibilities include:<br />

1. Lead and facilitate the integration of <strong>Tennis</strong> Canada's approved U12 Pathway<br />

Programs into the communities, schools, outdoor and indoor clubs (including<br />

<strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Development</strong> Centre’s) and community clubs/centres. Programs requiring<br />

integration include:<br />

• new Community Team <strong>Tennis</strong> program<br />

• new rookie tour events<br />

• new “Road <strong>Tennis</strong>” kit<br />

• new Active Start Program<br />

2. Develop and implement a comprehensive community development plan including<br />

using the <strong>Tennis</strong> Canada's Building <strong>Tennis</strong> Communities’ strategy (BTC’s). This<br />

approach identifies three key pillars to build growth in the sport of tennis through<br />

introduction and retention of players and providing sustainable infrastructure by<br />

identifying and mentoring community champions and other partners and using<br />

<strong>Tennis</strong> Canada's <strong>Tennis</strong> Pathway as a vehicle to facilitate these objectives.<br />

These objectives will be accomplished by fostering relationships with<br />

communities, clubs, parks and recreation departments, schools and tennis<br />

development centres and working closely with and assisting in the development<br />

of seasonal community tennis communities and/or clubs.<br />

• Club Programming Implementation and Delivery<br />

• School <strong>Tennis</strong><br />

• Pathway Programming<br />

• Community Camps / Clinics<br />

• Partner with member Clubs to deliver programming.


3. Lead, organize and support implementation of Progressive <strong>Tennis</strong> through:<br />

• Penetration of Progressive <strong>Tennis</strong> at all other (non <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Development</strong><br />

Centres) outdoor clubs, recreation department programs, community<br />

clubs, schools<br />

• <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Development</strong> Centres club programs and competitions<br />

• ½ and ¾ Progressive <strong>Tennis</strong> Seminars<br />

• Ensure optimal competitive structure (3/4 and full court transition)<br />

• Promotion of Progressive <strong>Tennis</strong> at Conferences, Seminars and<br />

workshops (both tennis and non tennis specific)<br />

4. Participate in the delivery of the following certification programs: Community<br />

<strong>Tennis</strong> Volunteer, Instructor Certification, and re-certification opportunities. This<br />

includes assisting the Executive Director, <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong> in standardizing the<br />

timing and delivery of coaching certification opportunities throughout the<br />

province; in order to increase the number of certifications and<br />

coaching/mentoring expertise at the provincial level.<br />

5. Other responsibilities and assignments under the direction of the Executive<br />

Director of <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong> toward achieving the priorities established by <strong>Tennis</strong><br />

<strong>Manitoba</strong>'s Strategic Plan in the areas of administration, financial planning,<br />

marketing and communications, fundraising and sponsorship.<br />

• general liaison with member clubs and specific responsibility for<br />

expanding outreach to regional member clubs with clinics, workshops and<br />

improved communications.<br />

• assist in the development and execution of new programs (First<br />

Nations/Inner City <strong>Tennis</strong>/Wheelchair <strong>Tennis</strong>).<br />

• lead the development of the Provincial High Performance team by<br />

providing coaching and general management.<br />

• assist with the organization of <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong> special events including<br />

the <strong>Manitoba</strong> Open Tournament and the Raise A Racquet Fundraising<br />

Banquet.<br />

• input financial information and assist in preparation of timely monthly<br />

reporting for Board of Directors.<br />

• Oversee and update all categories of Baseline Rankings on a timely basis.<br />

• Provide site management, content and regular updating for<br />

www.tennismanitoba.ca website.<br />

• assist with media/member club communications, correspondence,<br />

accounting, invoicing and other general office responsibilities.<br />

• assist in refining <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong>'s U12 - U18 "junior" programming<br />

including all elements of Junior Nationals, Schools Programs and<br />

Provincial High Performance Program.<br />

• assist in developing recreational and competitive adult programming for<br />

member clubs including creation of new leagues, organization and<br />

coordination of Interclub leagues and 3.0 level tournaments.<br />

• attend all <strong>Tennis</strong> <strong>Manitoba</strong> Board meetings and Committee meetings as<br />

required.
