Tennis Development Manager:
Introduction
The Tennis Manitoba Tennis Development Manager, will be responsible for leading
tennis development programs and activities to help achieve the mission of increasing
tennis participation through the development of community, school, and club tennis
programs, players and leaders in Manitoba The position will report directly to the
Executive Director Tennis Manitoba and be managed jointly by Tennis Manitoba and
Tennis Canada's Tennis Development Department.
Job Description and Responsibilities (under joint management of Tennis Manitoba -
Tennis Canada partnership)
The Tennis Development Manager will lead the coordination, delivery, development and
evaluation of Tennis Manitoba/Tennis Canada grassroots community development and
U12 grass roots coaching and program development. This concentrates on developing
the first three stages (Active start, Fundamentals, Developing) of the Long Term Athlete
Development Plan.
This includes training and increasing the quality/number of certified/volunteer coaches
to deliver programs and leagues in the communities, schools, clubs, and park and
recreation agencies.
Additional duties include building & supporting the recreation and introductory
competitive stream programs to include Community Team Tennis, Rookie Tours, High
School Tennis, and Progressive Tennis competitions. Specific responsibilities include:
1. Lead and facilitate the integration of Tennis Canada's approved U12 Pathway
Programs into the communities, schools, outdoor and indoor clubs (including
Tennis Development Centre’s) and community clubs/centres. Programs requiring
integration include:
• new Community Team Tennis program
• new rookie tour events
• new “Road Tennis” kit
• new Active Start Program
2. Develop and implement a comprehensive community development plan including
using the Tennis Canada's Building Tennis Communities’ strategy (BTC’s). This
approach identifies three key pillars to build growth in the sport of tennis through
introduction and retention of players and providing sustainable infrastructure by
identifying and mentoring community champions and other partners and using
Tennis Canada's Tennis Pathway as a vehicle to facilitate these objectives.
These objectives will be accomplished by fostering relationships with
communities, clubs, parks and recreation departments, schools and tennis
development centres and working closely with and assisting in the development
of seasonal community tennis communities and/or clubs.

• Community Camps / Clinics
• Partner with member Clubs to deliver programming.

3. Lead, organize and support implementation of Progressive Tennis through:
• Penetration of Progressive Tennis at all other (non Tennis Development
Centres) outdoor clubs, recreation department programs, community
clubs, schools
• Tennis Development Centres club programs and competitions
• ½ and ¾ Progressive Tennis Seminars
• Ensure optimal competitive structure (3/4 and full court transition)
• Promotion of Progressive Tennis at Conferences, Seminars and
workshops (both tennis and non tennis specific)
4. Participate in the delivery of the following certification programs: Community
Tennis Volunteer, Instructor Certification, and re-certification opportunities. This
includes assisting the Executive Director, Tennis Manitoba in standardizing the
timing and delivery of coaching certification opportunities throughout the
province; in order to increase the number of certifications and
coaching/mentoring expertise at the provincial level.
5. Other responsibilities and assignments under the direction of the Executive
Director of Tennis Manitoba toward achieving the priorities established by Tennis
Manitoba's Strategic Plan in the areas of administration, financial planning,
marketing and communications, fundraising and sponsorship.
• general liaison with member clubs and specific responsibility for
expanding outreach to regional member clubs with clinics, workshops and
improved communications.
• assist in the development and execution of new programs (First
Nations/Inner City Tennis/Wheelchair Tennis).
• lead the development of the Provincial High Performance team by
providing coaching and general management.
• assist with the organization of Tennis Manitoba special events including
the Manitoba Open Tournament and the Raise A Racquet Fundraising
Banquet.
• input financial information and assist in preparation of timely monthly
reporting for Board of Directors.
• Oversee and update all categories of Baseline Rankings on a timely basis.
• Provide site management, content and regular updating for
www.tennismanitoba.ca website.
• assist with media/member club communications, correspondence,
accounting, invoicing and other general office responsibilities.
• assist in refining Tennis Manitoba's U12 - U18 "junior" programming
including all elements of Junior Nationals, Schools Programs and
Provincial High Performance Program.
• assist in developing recreational and competitive adult programming for
member clubs including creation of new leagues, organization and
coordination of Interclub leagues and 3.0 level tournaments.
• attend all Tennis Manitoba Board meetings and Committee meetings as
required.
