The purpose of a college education is usually thought to be the acquisition of
knowledge and facts in the various areas of learning. Though this is doubtless true,
the student who acquired only book learning has fallen short of the full objective of
college training. In college he also should have developed and acquired a workable
philosophy of life, as well as a curiosity which will cause him to be a student the rest
of his life. Commencement day should not mark the end of learning, but its true
beginning.
