Desmids REFERENCE PLATE Staurodesmus tumidus Mike Guwak Full name: Staurodesmus tumidus (Brébisson ex Ralfs) Teiling 1967: 578 Shape: The cells are large and wider than they are long. The semicells can be elliptical or strongly rounded in a hexagonal arrangement. The septum is rounded in the center and strongly widened towards the sides. The cell wall contains scattered pores. According to Meindl (1987), the desmid may belong to the genus Pleurenterium, based on the position of the chloroplasts and other cell organelles in the cell.
