Professional Rescuer
American Red Cross professional rescuer
courses is designed for people with a jobrelated
duty to respond in an emergency,
including nurses, law enforcement and EMS
personnel, fire fighters, business and industry
response teams, lifeguards, flight attendants,
and others who must take action in
emergency situations.
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
teaches students to respond to breathing
and cardiac emergencies in adults, children
and infants, use an AED on an adult or
child victim or cardiac arrest and use
personal protective equipment to stop
bloodborne pathogens and other diseases
from spreading.

Rescuer Highlights
• Identify the responsibilities and
characteristics of a professional rescuer.
• List the series of events that occur when
the emergency medical services (EMS)
system is activated.
• Understand legal considerations that
affect a professional rescuer.
• Recognize and provide appropriate care
for breathing emergencies, including
cardiac arrest, and other life-threatening
injuries and illnesses.
• Demonstrate how to properly remove
disposable gloves.
