antiquity every fourth year for a thousand years.
of the games, and their demise over a thousand
years later.
Coubertin’s Vision (1x52) - Pierre de Coubertin
is known as the instigator of the modern Olympic
movement, responsible for resurrecting the
from 1894, the progression of the event and the
is the herald of the Games to come, uniting people
from all walks of life as they come together for
the chance to carry the flame and be a part of the
Olympic movement. The epic journey of the torch is
now as much an event as the Games themselves,
inspiring national pride as the power of the
emblem is felt throughout the world.
New Addition
back catalogue, exclusive access to the IOC
Executive Board and interviews with the world’s
in the Olympics from the Ancient Heraean and
World Women’s Games of the early part of the
20th century through to the Centennial Games
in Atlanta where more than 3,500 women
competed. Documenting their struggle for
acceptance, the gradual change of perception
and the increased status of women at the Games,
these programmes give a great insight into
the development of women’s participation and
discuss the IOC’s role in the promotion of women
in sport.
New Additions
Olympic Peaks (HD) (1x52) charts the Games’
most iconic record-breaking moments and
attempt to reveal just how fast, high and strong
an Olympic athlete can become through the
application of technique, training and technology
to produce great leaps forward in performance
from the amateurs of Athens 1896.
The Games through the Lens (HD) (2x26) takes
a closer look at some of the iconic images from
Olympic history and examines them in fine detail,
contextualising the photographs and explaining the
significance of the captured moment at the time
that it was taken. Featuring the likes of Sergey
Bubka and Frankie Fredericks, these programmes
within the pictures, recalling the professional
achievements with personal memories of some of
the most enduring instants in the event’s history.
Chapter 6: The Olympians
12 x 26 min Programmes
Pursuing the Dream (1x26) and The Will to
Win (1x26) capture the true embodiment of
the Olympic spirit by recalling the tales of less
celebrated athletes over the history of the Games.
There are athletes who knew they could never
win, those for whom victory was a probability
but unfortunately eluded them, and those with
seemingly little or no chance who shocked the
world to win an Olympic Gold.
Champions & Challengers (4x26 and 2x26 new
in HD) takes a closer look at some of the greatest
Olympic rivalries, exploring the meaning of
competition and the fierce emotions that
competition can bring between famous Olympic
rivals. Using archive footage and new interviews,
the programmes analyse the passion that drives
competition and the mutual respect between
athletes on and off the field.
Unlikely Heroes (2x26 and 2x26 new in HD) tells
the stories of some of the surprising and less well
known Olympic athletes who have triumphed over
background, adversity or ill health or social and
political barriers. These competitors embody the
Olympic ideal; some have become winners, but
for others participation in the Games is a triumph
in itself.
