Last month the Gryphon Trio celebrated<br />
its tenth anniversary with a<br />
Music Toronto performance that<br />
included the North American<br />
premiere of a reeently discovered trio<br />
by the Romanian composer George<br />
Enescu. That the Gryphons were<br />
chosen for this honour by the eminent<br />
Belgian musicologist Harry<br />
Halbreich is an indication of just how<br />
accomplished these young local<br />
musicians have become.<br />
The tenth anniversary concert lliso<br />
provided an occasion to launch the<br />
group's fourth CD for the Analekta<br />
label featuring two trios from<br />
Beethoven's Op. I. Recorded last<br />
September in the warm acoustic of<br />
Domaine Forget in Saint-Irenee<br />
Quebec, these lively performances<br />
testify to the group's ensemble skills.<br />
