The 3rd Annual <strong>Sorrento</strong> <strong>Wave</strong> Short Story Contest<br />

RULES:<br />

1. Read and follow all the rules! We don’t want to have to disqualify any<br />

stories.<br />

2. All stories must use the following opening line:<br />

“In that surreal moment when the car skidded off the road, my father’s<br />

warning echoed in my ears”<br />

This can be a complete sentence, or you can add to it, but your story must<br />

start with the opening line provided.<br />

3. Each entry must be accompanied by a $5 entry fee, with cheques payable<br />

<strong>Sorrento</strong> <strong>Wave</strong> Publications. You can enter as many times as you wish, but<br />

each entry must be accompanied by the entry fee.<br />

4. All proceeds from this contest will go towards a local cause. This year the<br />

proceeds will be donated to the South Shuswap First Responders.<br />

5. Prizes will be awarded as follows:<br />

1st place – One copy of Beginnings, Middles & Ends by Nancy Kress. The<br />

winning entry will be printed in a future issue of the <strong>Sorrento</strong> <strong>Wave</strong> and on our<br />

website at http://sorrentowave.com<br />

2nd place – One copy of Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss. The 2nd<br />

place entry will be published on our website at http://sorrentowave.com<br />

6. Entries must be original, unpublished works of fiction, in any genre,<br />

submitted on plain 8½ x 11 inch white paper, double-spaced and typed.<br />

7. Short stories should range from 500 words up to a maximum of 1500 words<br />

(approximately two to six typewritten pages).<br />

8. Each entry should include a cover page with the author’s name, address,<br />

phone number, and email address (if applicable), as well as the title of your<br />

story. Do not write your name, address, or phone number on any other pages<br />

of the manuscript.<br />

9. Mail entries to:<br />

10. Entries must be postmarked on or before March 2, <strong>2012</strong>.<br />

11. This contest is open to all Canadian residents of any age.<br />

12. Please keep a copy of your manuscript as it will not be returned to you.<br />
