Emerging Resistance
The Problem
Sheep farmers live with the potential of significant productivity
losses in their flocks every day.
Over recent years, resistance has been a continuously growing
problem and has become more and more recognised and
obvious as a cause of production loss. A key component of
current best practice for the management of resistance is to
recommend the use of multiple actives administered at the
same time, ie. combination drenches.
Now resistance is also looming as a real threat for cattle
farmers and chances are you are using a drench that may not
be delivering the same result it was even a few years ago.
Given the almost total dependence of cattle farmers on
endectocide type drenches, it is only a matter of time before
resistance to major cattle parasites becomes regularly
reported.
The Solution
eclipse – Combining two powerful actives to manage
resistance.
It is now widely accepted by parasitologists that using
combinations of two or more actives is a key approach to
preventing the development of resistance. By hitting the
parasite population hard with multiple actives at the same time,
combination drenches can:
• Slow down the development of resistance. It is highly
unlikely that parasites will possess and express resistance
to all actives at the same time.
• Be effective against parasites that have developed
resistance to one or the other of the ingredients.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION #
eclipse Pour-On dose rate is 1 mL / 20 kg body weight (0.5 mg / kg abamectin
and 10 mg / kg levamisole). Apply along the backline of the animal using an
eclipse Pour-On applicator in a strip starting between the shoulder blades.
Only use the pour-on applicator supplied for use with eclipse Pour-On.
eclipse is not compatible with other applicators. After use, rinse gun with
warm soapy water.
Store below 25°C (Air Conditioning). Protect from light.
WITHHOLDING PERIODS
MEAT: DO NOT USE less than 56 days before slaughter for human
consumption.
A first for Australian cattle producers.
Here’s the best news for cattle producers since pour-ons were invented.
Presenting new eclipse, the first dual action, broad-spectrum cattle
pour-on developed specifically for Australian cattle producers, by Merial.
By combining two powerful actives ~ abamectin and levamisole ~ in one
single convenient dose, we’ve created a whole new level of parasite
protection for Australian beef producers. Quite simply, you now have the
power of a combination in a pour-on.
Double-strength eclipse delivers twice the punching power of a
conventional pour-on. It gives you unsurpassed power for even greater
performance: so you’ll have far greater control over the parasites that
threaten your herd.
Brutally effective against all major gastrointestinal parasites ~ including
those resistant to endectocide drenches ~ eclipse provides a level of
parasite control you simply can’t get from conventional, single-active
products.
It takes your parasite control to the next level.
Get your hands on double strength eclipse. Twice the pour-on.
A powerful, new and effective choice # .
• Offers a more effective drench option than any currently available ∆
• The power of a combination – in a pour-on
• Delivers superior performance – eliminates every profitthreatening,
major worm species, even resistant ones
• Protects your herd against resistance^
• The future of cattle pour-ons = Multiple-active formulations.
What does eclipse deliver? #
✓ Simultaneously delivers a full abamectin dose and a full
levamisole dose to provide combination efficacy against
major parasite species.
✓ Better field performance than single active endectocides.
✓ Unsurpassed control over Cooperia and Ostertagia species.
✓ The only pour-on with a registered claim to control resistant
worms.
✓ Convenient low 1 mL per 20 kg dose rate.
ACTIVE CONSTITUENTS:
200 mg/mL LEVAMISOLE
10 mg/mL ABAMECTIN
FOR THE TREATMENT AND CONTROL OF ROUNDWORMS,
INCLUDING MACROCYCLIC LACTONE OR LEVAMISOLE
RESISTANT STRAINS, AND EXTERNAL PARASITES IN CATTLE
Manage resistance^, protect your
profitability.
With its unique and proven ability to kill resistant strains of
parasites # , eclipse is more effective than other pour-ons at
managing the range of worm populations in the field.
When you use eclipse Pour-On, you are not only ensuring the
highest possible worm kill is achievable, you are also protecting
the productive future of your farming operation.
Being a dual action pour-on, the abamectin component works to
kill a broad-spectrum of internal and external parasites, while
the levamisole component works to kill ML-resistant strains of
Cooperia and Ostertagia. This results in superior, longer-term and
sustainable control.
Data on the prevalence of resistant cattle worms in Australia is
beginning to emerge. On some affected properties, producers
were not aware of the impact resistant worms were having until
they trialled a combination drench and observed a substantial
production response. This improved performance against worms
– and the associated production benefits – have now been
demonstrated in field studies 1 .
eclipse POUR-ON
eclipse Pour-On contains abamectin, a member of the
macrocyclic lactone family of chemicals which is effective against
sensitive strains of internal and external parasites. It also contains
levamisole, a member of the imidazothiazoles family of chemicals,
which is effective against roundworms, including lungworm.
INDICATIONS
For the treatment and control of adult and immature stages of:
Gastrointestinal roundworms, including strains resistant to
macrocyclic lactones (“mectin drenches”) or to imidazothiazoles
(“clear drenches” such as levamisole)
Barbers Pole Worm (Haemonchus placei)
Small Brown Stomach Worm (Ostertagia ostertagi, O. lyrata,
including inhibited stages)
Stomach Hair Worm (Trichostrongylus axei)
Small Intestinal Worm (Cooperia oncophora, C. punctata,
C. pectinata, C. mcmasteri)
Hookworm (Bunostomum phlebotomum)
Thin-necked Intestinal Worm (Nematodirus spp.)
Intestinal Threadworm (Strongyloides papillosus)
Black Scour Worm (Trichostrongylus spp.)
Large Bowel Worm (Oesophagostomum radiatum)
Large Mouth Bowel Worm (Chabertia ovina)
Whipworm (Trichuris spp.)
Lungworm – (Dictyocaulus viviparus)
Lice – Long-nosed Sucking Lice (Linognathus vituli)
– Biting Lice (Bovicola bovis) ##
Buffalo Fly – (Haematobia irritans exigua)
eclipse Pour-On controls infection with Buffalo Fly for up to
10 days after treatment.
Cattle Tick (Boophilus microplus)
Maximum tick efficacy is achieved 4-5 days after treatment.
Engorged female ticks that drop from cattle in the initial days after
treatment may lay viable eggs. This should be taken into account
when planning a strategic tick control program.
