professionals. Hundreds of food service directors were consulted and their suggestions were
combined with the Horizon team’s vast experience and knowledge to develop the finest, most
comprehensive product of its kind for school food service management. The product is called
B.O.S.S. which is an acronym for Back Office Software Solution. B.O.S.S. is an appropriate
name because the system is truly a solution for any school food service management problem. In
1998, due to customer requests and other factors, Horizon added “FastLane”, a state-of-the-art
point of sale system, to their product offering. The FastLane point of sale system utilizes “cutting
edge” technology with touch screen and picture I.D. capabilities using actualWindows®-based
computers as POS terminals. The FastLane addition enabled Horizon the ability to offer a
complete “turnkey” solution to the food service industry. In 1999, Horizon opened the newly
constructed national headquarters in suburban Atlanta. This ergonomically designed 15,000
square foot complex has considerable office space, conference and training rooms to
accomodate the national staff and provide our customers a comfortable training environment.
Further expansion continued with another regional office and training facility opening in Las
Vegas. To help provide better service to our west coast customers, the Las Vegas office has
proven to be a convenient location for advanced system training and support. In 2000, Horizon’s
workforce nearly doubled as we acquired several school food service companies. These “former
competitors” are now part of the Horizon family and include Lunchcruncher, McFall and
Associates (the Cricket system), and Innovative Concepts One (ICO). Over the last two years,
we have completed the additional construction of our corporate headquarters by adding a
warehouse, more office space and training rooms. This expansion has more than doubled the
size of our corporate facility to a total of 38,000 square feet. Horizon’s basic philosophy has
been, and continues to be, as follows:1. To provide the best customer service in the industry, bar
none!2. To provide the highest quality products in the industry, bar none!3. To maintain fair
prices, while providing superior customer service and products.Horizon backs up its philosophy
with its money, devoting approximately 45% of their resources to customer solutions, 30% to
research and development, 15% to sales and marketing and 10% to administration.Horizon has
invested thousands of hours and millions of dollars over a period of years to develop its software
system. The entire Horizon team is very proud of their company and the excellent systems that
they have developed. They are determined to maintain a leadership role in the industry by
continuing to improve B.O.S.S. and FastLane daily through the innovation of powerful technology,
superior enhancements and excellent new products that are innovative, easy to use and are
offered at competitive prices.
