Product Guide 2008www.apg.tm.frProfessional Sound Systems

Increasing demand on sound qualityDue to major changes in the recording industry, touring artists and live music performances are increasing in popularity. Today’s artists areoften moving on from studio to stage and are expecting to find, in their live performance, if not the exact sound of their records, the wellbalanced, detailed sound of top quality studio reproduction.Digital technologies have increased the performing quality of hi-fi installations at home and in the car, as well as of personal players (i-podsand other MP3 players), thus generating a demand for improved sound quality in concert halls.Sound professionals are facing the challenge of satisfying clients on both sides of the stage: providing the artists with the best conditionsfor the expression of their talents as well as displaying the musical shading of a show for the audience. The new generation of APG products is the result of a thorough knowledge in terms of performance in sound reproduction. Sonic quality isnot a subjective notion when considering criteria such as phase, bandwidth, frequency response linearity, and moreover, the non-distortionrelated criteria. These fundamental considerations have been taken into account and allow APG products to combine work with pleasure each time an APGsound system powers into action.SMX15The SMX15 speaker is the perfect example of high precision and high power, offeringthe user acoustical transparency, exceptional dynamic range and a minimum of measureddistortion, whatever the sound pressure level, and this even at low frequencies.Coaxial technology has been chosen in order to avoid distortion, discontinuous directivityor diffraction that are generated when using any horn techniques. The SMX15 is a realhigh power stage monitor, combining studio listening performance with ergonomics thatallow the SMX15 to deal easily with any demanding stage situation. Its innovativeergonomics as well as its patented ATS (Aiming Tuning System), allow, when floormounted, angle adjustment to 5 positions.SMX15K-HORN SubwoofersTB SubwoofersThe TB Series takes advantage of the exclusive K-HORN load: This specific load allowsat least 4 to 6 dB of acoustical gain in comparison to direct radiation or traditional bassreflex systems.Whatever your needs - a double 18" for the TB218S, a double 15" for the TB215S,a single 18" for the TB118S, or a single 15" for the TB115S - they offer high levelperformance in terms of acoustical efficiency, power capability and sound precision.Essential features for pro-audio users are also present: ergonomics, compactness, practicability and incomparable light weight due to the use of Neodymium componentsand structural reinforcement.A number of presets for the DMS26 digital processor are available, for creating array, cardio or sub-arc configurations. The new dedicated processors (LP type) integratenew processing and protection parameters, for enhanced overall performance."LP" Dynamic ProcessorLP ProcessorsAPG is unveiling its new generation of signal processors with real time dynamicprotection. These new models integrate the equivalent of two previous processors fornearfield (stage monitors) or farfield (F.O.H.) into a stereo system with mono sub (2.1).It is now possible to feed the sub channel from an external source provided by a mixingconsole or a digital processor. A new EQ function allows the adjustment of clarity of thesystem. The new TB subwoofer range is integrated into the subwoofer selection switchbank anda new function allows the optimization of satellite/sub matching, taking the physicaldistance between speakers into consideration.

Technical Support & APG toolsWhatever the performance specifications of a system, the final quality of an installation is mainlydependent on the acoustic source choice, its positioning and configuration as well as final tuning.APG offers a wide choice of measurement, calculation & prediction tools which allows soundprofessionals to reach an unprecedented level of results in terms of performances.Bearing in mind the competence of their clients, APG R&D engineers permanently ensure anadvanced level of technical support, so that any solutions are optimally adapted to all thetechnical and economic criteria of the projects. In addition to the acoustic studies based ontraditional simulator programs, APG has developed two tools for “project validation”, which asthe name implies, allows the validation of a sound installation project through the ResearchDepartment. These tools are the “APG Project file” and “APG Project Guide” software.Project GuideThe APG Project Guide is acoustic simulation software dedicated to APG products. It produces an evaluation of the coverage of a given APG system installed in a given venue. It is usable for blueprinting as well as for selecting equipment and tuning a system. Severaltypes of venues are directly accessible; a number of parameters are preset, in order toquicken the venue-modelling phase. Owing to the tutorial concept and the very intuitiveinterface of the APG Project Guide, anyone is able, within a few minutes, to analyse a giveninstallation, for pre-evaluation of coverage performance: direct and total field, direct/reverbratio, intelligibility criteria.Matrix Aiming ToolAPG Matrix Array Systems provide excellent ergonomics and a control ofdirectivity, making it possible to vary both the length of throw andthe horizontal dispersion. The purpose of the Matrix Aiming Tool calculatoris to study and optimize the acoustic and mechanical aspects ofthe “cluster” configuration needed to provide the required coverage. It hasbeen shown to halve installation time. The system engineer will be able toprint out the configuration, showing the number of columns and lines ofenclosures, the type of each enclosure, horizontal and vertical couplingangles etc, and will obtain a full report intended for the technical teamsin charge of the rigging.

The APG signal processingAPG Signal processing: Adaptability & VersatilityVarious types of analogue and digital processors allow a processing configuration toprovide any required level and protection controls. All cabinets for which the processor is optional are optimised for vocal reproduction andmid-power level applications. “SPM” processors deliver a bandwidth EQ for musicalapplications at mid-power level. DMS26 processor’s presets follow the “SPM”processors’ functions. “LP” dynamic processors are required for high-power applicationsand live sound. The combination of DMS26 & “LP” processors offer maximum control.Digital Management processorsTogether with the development of each system’s dedicated signal processors, APG alsooffers a concept of electronic digital processing for “Touring” or “Fixed Installation”configurations, i.e. hall EQ, level controls, and time alignment of complex sound systems.DMS26Analogue loudspeaker processingScientific research based on mathematical analysis of all the operating parameters ofloudspeakers has provided guidance for the design of specific processors, whichguarantee flawless system reliability. According to the expected environment andprojected use of the system, APG offers two types of processors.Static processors provide frequency response optimisation and sub-and-ultrasonicprotection in applications where the system is not run at its maximum dynamic capacity.Dynamic processors control all the active filtering, equalisation and topology-relatedsettings of the system. They also provide loudspeaker protection by the simulation ofdestructive parameters, allowing the maximum dynamic capacity of the speakers to beused, with the highest reproduction quality and optimum reliability.LPxxx

Matrix Array SeriesThe Matrix Array Series is composed ofthe APG4000 and APG6000 systems, designed for high power front-of-houseapplications. The development of MatrixArray systems is based on two collinearsource concepts and the Isotopacoustic load. The APG4000 is a medium length systemmaking it outstandingly versatile with itsmodularity and ease of use. It can be usedoutdoor, stacked or flown, with a soundcoverage up to 40 meters. The APG6000is a high precision & high power line-source system intended mainly as along-throw complement to the APG4000. The APG 6000 can also beused alone. Thanks to their identical ergonomics and acoustic pattern, those systemsare fully compatible and complementary. The result is an unlimitedpossibility of configurations defined by the principle of a “matrix” soundsystem. Each system is composed by two speakers of identical dimensions: fullrange “HI” type speaker and low frequency “LO” type speaker. This combination offers unique modularity: 4000HI & 6000HI can be usedalone for vocal applications, 4000LO & 6000LO, the number useddepending on the requirement, and subwoofers added for infra lowfrequency reinforcement when needed.A study of the configurations of Matrix Array systems can be carried outusing the software Matrix Aiming Tool. The shipping of systems can berealised with the multi cabinet castor plate allowing the stacking of severalspeakers and therefore pre-configuring the clusters, so saving assemblytime on site before flying them. This technique halves the usual riggingtime for clusters.Matrix Array SeriesMatrix System APG40004000LO Low-frequency section of MATRIX 4000, 2 x 15”4000HI Mid/hi section of MATRIX4000, 1 x 15” / 1x Isotop154000SP Dynamic processor 2 x 3-way + sub (int. or ext.) for APG40004000PR Transportation trolley for MATRIX 4000Matrix System APG60006000LO Low-frequency section of MATRIX 6000, 2 x 15”6000HI Mid/hi section of MATRIX 6000, 1 x 15” / 2 x Isotop56000SP Dynamic processor 2 x 3-way + sub (int. or ext) for APG60006000PR Transportation trolley for MATRIX 6000 & MATRIX 4000Matrix Array Flying Hardware4TRUSS Rigging truss for fixed installation Matrix Array4RCAV Front vertical coupling piece6TRUSS Rigging truss for “Touring” application for Matrix Array6LBLift bar for rigging of two Matrix Array Clusters6RCAV Front vertical coupling piece for Matrix 4000 & 60006RCAR Rear vertical coupling piece for Matrix 4000 & 60006RAAV Front horizontal coupling piece for Matrix 4000 & 60006RAAR Rear horizontal coupling piece for Matrix 4000 & 6000QRP23EL Locking pin L= 23mm for Matrix 4000 & 6000QRP43 Locking pin L= 43mm for Matrix 4000 & 6000ELQRP Slings for quick locking pinTHE ISOTOP TECHNOLOGYThe Isotop isophase system isequipped with 6,50”/HF1” driver whichprovides continuous 700Hz to 19KHzbandwidth with superior power anddistortion lower than classicalcompression drivers. The Isotop technology is found in Matrix Array series, IsolineSeries, Beam Series & Sector Series.
