<strong>Part</strong>-<strong>Time</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> <strong>Program</strong> Application Guide – Winter 2013• The BS,N requires 2 years of foreign language in high school or two quarters of foreign language incollege. <strong>College</strong> foreign language can be used to fulfill the Humanities electives. Additionally, for theBS,N the students will need 15 credit hours of upper division elective (not available at OHSU).• Students should understand that although co‐admitted to the Oregon Health & Science UniversitySchool of <strong>Nursing</strong>, those who choose to transition from the <strong>MHCC</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> <strong>Program</strong> to OHSU will have toundergo a Criminal Background Check for OHSU at the time of transition and ability to enroll in OHSUcourses may be negatively impacted by any criminal history in their background.• The prerequisite year of the program is devoted to prerequisite courses required before the first quarterof the <strong>Nursing</strong> program. Year Two (see chart above) of the OCNE program is comprised of identicalcourses for associate and bachelor’s work. The third quarter of Year Three offers students the ability tocomplete the AAS degree (and eligibility for NCLEX‐RN licensure testing) or can be used to begin thecoursework for the Bachelor of Science degree in <strong>Nursing</strong> (BS) or a combination of both. Fifteen credithours of non‐nursing coursework must be upper division courses (300‐400 level courses) for theBachelors Degree in <strong>Nursing</strong>.• It is important for students to be aware that residency requirements differ between OCNE schools andOHSU. Meeting the in‐state tuition residency requirement for <strong>MHCC</strong> does not ensure students will beeligible for residency and in‐state tuition at OHSU.
