COMPETENCY
In each unit, Students will be issued a series of tasks designed to enable them to demonstrate their
competence in the relevant subject area. Using the simulation scenario, the line manager will set
tasks designed to enable the Student to demonstrate their underlying knowledge and
understanding.
Students will show and justify how, based on their own experience, knowledge given through the
Centre of Excellence and understanding, they would respond to the challenge set. The method is
enjoyable, practical and a genuine fast-track route to an internationally recognised qualification, or
to build upon and create new skills, and challenging current practices.
SUMMARY
One of the difficulties many Students have at the
start of their learning programmes is making the
adjustment to a system where competence is
assessed rather than knowledge being examined.
For competence assessment, the Tutor is trying to
find out not just how much the Student knows, but
if the knowledge is sufficiently understood for it to
be applied in real life. Your Tutor will use a
combination of directive and supportive behaviour
to guide you through this process.
