west with a design workshop

Although new to the angling 

press Phil is no newcomer to 

carp angling. He works in a 

tackle shop in the heart of the 

Cotswolds, he rolls bait in his 

spare time and is bailiff on 

Cemex Angling’s Wraysbury 1

Welcome to our new catalogue for 

autumn/winter and the latest chance 

to see what is happening at Aqua. 

We’re pleased to show you our latest

focus of our development over the past 

year has been how to make products 

for the angler who wants to travel 

light with just the kit they need and is

as the brolly system, there is a new 

lightweight sleeping bag – the duvetlite 

on page 12. A new slimmed-down rod 

sling system, with lightweight rod 

sleeve options provides the protection 

and affordability that we’re sure you’ll

provide a perfect alternative to the

There are several accessories in the range 

from peg bags through to reel pouches. The 

couple of products that really are worth a 

look are the tip and reel protectors. Ideal 

when used in conjunction with our RS slings 

without the sleeves. The reel protectors have 

Velcro either side that stops the reel from 

swinging together in transit.

Catalogue Diary 

So how do we put a catalogue together? Andy’s diary gives you an insight into the up’s and downs of 

getting to grips with photographing over 100 products in 4 days… 

Day 1. 

My journey started at 2 am with a 4 hour drive from Aqua HQ in Chorley, to the venue 

generously provided by Mick Barnes of Cemex angling. The Chertsey venue looked 

cracking and more than met my expectations for a carpy venue. All was going well until I 

heard that the M4 had been closed due to an accident, which delayed the photographers 

by over 3 hours. This was topped off by an emergency vet visit that luggage designer 

Keith Sykes had to make with Lucy the carp dog and his chauffer Phil Bunyan (It was 

Lucy who needed treatment and not Phil!) A quick trip to Yateley Angling Centre to collect 

the rest of the stock for the shoot that Ruth had kindly taken receipt of, and the day was 

pretty much over. 

Day 3. 

By 6 am I had received a picture message from Nick who had also got amongst the 

action with a 30 + common! The rods had only been out for less than 6 hours! Pictures 

were done and the fish care section of the catalogue ticked off. We were slipping behind 

schedule due to the hectic bank activity so we started early. No sooner had we started 

than Garth Ethelston and Oliver Davies from Advanced Carp Fishing had come to get a 

sneak preview of the latest additions to the range. I am glad they did, as by mid afternoon 

power had gone on the cameras and lap tops! Luckily Oliver was also a bailiff on the 

Horton complex and got me out of the sticky stuff with a quick recharge and re-group! 

We had made good progress and reluctantly Keith and Phil had to depart due to work 

commitments, thanks lads – a cracking effort.

Day 2. 

An early start and news that one of the photographers had managed a 37 lb 6 mirror in 

the night so pictures were done and morale was high. The enthusiasm was even higher 

as we started to photograph the most technical products, first ensuring each product 

looked it’s best and not just thrown up for fishing purposes. A visit from Rob Maylin of 

Big Carp magazine meant that many happy hours were spent listening to the old fella’s, 

Rob and Keith, reminiscing of the days at Longfield. Rob had an early version of the 

Aqua Dome that had served him so well all those years back. He was very interested to 

see how far we had come and took a liking to our Ultralite! Later that day Nick Helleur 

arrived bursting with enthusiasm after the news of the fish the morning before and 

boasting that he’d better it before the week was out.

Day 4. 

Fully charged, we were up early before breakfast to finish off the last of the product 

shots and to get some scenic shots. Nick got stuck in and helped out - with his vast 

knowledge of photography and using a variety of lenses and applications we managed 

to get some absolute crackers. By mid afternoon we were ready for home, cars loaded 

and pictures done. But the fish were cruising up on top so we couldn’t leave the lake 

with this going on and had one last try, but to no avail. I hope you find it all worth 

while. It wouldn’t have been possible without the team, many thanks to Mick Barnes of 

Cemex Angling; Phil Bunyan, Nick Helleur & Keith Sykes our ever enthusiastic and loyal 

Consultants. Alexei and Joe for some fantastic images; Paul Biddas for all his help taking 

back stock to Yateley Angling and Ruth at Yateley for holding the stock for us. Without 

you this catalogue wouldn’t be being read now.

Brolly System 

At long last the wait will be over at the start of 2009. To co-incide with the start of the 

new season Aqua will be launching the new 55 Brolly system. The frame’s have now been 

sourced from a high quality manufacturer, and following testing the final tweaks have 

been made. 

The new design is built on giving the internal space that a 50” brolly provided with the 

coverage of a 60” brolly. The same infill system has been used to provide you with the 

flexibility to decide what coverage you need. This time we’ve also added integral mozzi 

panels within the infill panels. 

Prices will be confirmed early in the new year so keep an eye on the press and web sites. 

On the drawing board. 

Currently being tested are 2 new cracking bivvy designs that we hope to have ready for 

the early part of the new year. Without giving too much away, the first one is a radical 

new frame design for the European market and the other brings a fresh look at the mk2 1 

man design. 

As well as the bivvy developments look out for additions to the luggage range which 

will include a new rucksack, larger carry all and long rig wallet. The clothing will also be 

updated following the consultants comments on the current designs.

3. Delivery - Next day delivery on all orders (excluding Highlands, islands and overseas) placed before 2pm 

Monday to Thursday. Items weighing less than 1kg will be delivered using 1st class Royal Mail where 95% of 

all orders are received on the next working day. All other orders are sent by APC on next day courier service 

where over 99% of items are delivered next day. Please note that we are in the hands of our trusted couriers 

and therefore cannot guarantee the speed of this service. 

4. Delivery Charges - Orders of a value of less than £30 are charged at £6. Orders of a value of more 

than £30 are charged at £10. Overseas orders and BFPO postage will be charged at cost. Please call for a 

quotation. 

5. Repair Service Charges - The price of repairs is: £40 for a repair less than 30 minutes sewing & Cutting 

time. £60 for a repair between 30 and 60 minutes sewing/cutting time. Over 60 minutes we will provide a 

quote. We aim to complete all repairs with 14 working days. Customers must provide details of their name, 

address, contact number and repair required when returning the item. Carriage is charged in addition to 

repair costs.
