Junior School NewsOnce more the Junior School is buzzing with busyness and special events. The Prep and Kindergarten Orientation days were held last week. It was excitingto have all the very keen parents and students visiting. I was thrilled with thewarm generosity of the present Danebank parents who hosted the morning tea,to welcome the new comers and provide assistance for a smooth and happytransition into our school. Wonderfully positive feedback was given for the caringand responsibility demonstrated by the Year 5 students who are the Kindergartenbuddies.DiscoThis was followed by the Junior School Disco. There was a huge team of parentswho superbly organised every aspect of the evening to ensure a fun filled and safeevent for the girls. Again I was so encouraged by their willingness to serve theDanebank community and uphold both the School Motto and Ethos.Instrumental AfternoonThis week we had the Instrumental afternoon for all the Year 3 and 4 students andparents, and band members. It is so rewarding to see the increased impact of thisprogram across the School. The world of musicianship is an additional opportunityfor the Junior School students. As students develop a greater mastery andinvolvement, their school life is greatly enriched and the influence is long term.Student ElectionsThe Year 5 students participated in their leadership training, and then at school theywere given time to prepare their speeches to deliver to their peers. Voting then takesplace for students and teachers for the House and Prefect positions for 2013.Early in 2013 all students will be given leadership responsibility for their newKindergarten student and the choice to nominate for Class Monitor responsibility. It is essential for all girls to maintain an excellent standard of attendance to facilitatetheir preparation for and involvement in the end of year activities.Calendar DatesI hope everyone has the Junior School Carol Night and Speech Night reserved intheir diaries.Junior School Special Assembly – Friday, November, 30 at 1.00pm in PACDiary Dates: Junior School Carol Night – Tuesday, 27 November at 6.30pm in PACSpeech Night – Wednesday, December 5 at 7.30pm in the Sydney Town HallMrs L. A wonderful effort! AMEB examinations take place 27-29 th November and two of Danebank’s ‘old girls’ sit for their practical Associate ofSpeech and Drama in February. By all accounts – a successful year!Parents, please consider entering your girls in at least one section of Eisteddfods ifthey are returning next year. This form of performance is preparing them to speak infront of larger crowds, whereas examinations evaluate their standard.Thank you for giving me your girls to teach this year. On the whole we have had ahappy, successful year.Barbara Gall, MA, F.IMEB, Dip (PP) AGM, LSDA, ASDA, A.MUS.A. MAGMRExtra Subjects Teacher – Speech/Drama/SingingStage 2 Inaugural Reading RegattaBelieve it or not, on Tuesday, we had a regatta here at Danebank, with absolutelyno water involved! Competing in the line-up were ten teams: Crazy Canoes, DaringDragon Boats, Fab Ferries, Jumping Jetskis, Gorgeous Gondolas, Luxury Liners,Cool Catamarans, Super Subs, Yahoo Yachts and Outrageous Outriggers.Firing up these teams were the students of Year 3 and Year 4, who were propelledinto the magical world of books by participating in five different activities during themorning. They went on magical carpet rides in an Arabian tent, crept into roomswhere wild things were, drew storyboards, wrote alliterative sentences aboutGorillas, acted out characters, read and watched books on interactive white boardsand found feelings represented in picture book images. After a fun lunch at Hurstville Oval Park, the students all gathered in the PAC,where teachers shared favourite books and memories of books, interspersedwith fun songs. This was a really successful regatta and ended with a photo finishbetween four teams and Luxury Liners winning by a “nose”.Stage 2 students will definitely be looking forward to this fabulous day next year.Mrs Karen Shannon-Duhigg, Stage 2 Co-ordinatorDANEBANK News page 6
