If seeds of a particular crop or variety cannot be found inthe country or region where you are working, it is possible to order seeds from othercountries.When transferring seeds across borders, you will likely need the following documents:1) a seed import permit from the country that the seeds will be shipped to; 2) aphytosanitary certificate from the country of origin (often the shipper/seed suppliercan supply this) stating that the seeds are free of pests and diseases. Check with theMinistry of Agriculture in the country you work in to find out details regarding documentsneeded and how to obtain them. Typically, one would begin by obtaining theimport permit, as this document could contain specific seed treatments required forentry of particular crops. One would then send the import permit to the seed supplierin the country of origin. Based on requirements outlined in the import permit, theseed supplier can carry out any specific seed treatments, list those in the phytosanitarycertificate, and include both documents (originals may be required) in the boxof seeds to be shipped. Request that shipments be sent via a reputable carrier suchas DHL.
