Mary AmosonMEDT 6402Website Evaluation FormThe educational site with animated videos called BrainPOP is locatedonline at http://www.brainpop.com/. I selected this site because it does agreat job of making learning fun and exciting. My students love the videosand want to know more about any topic that I show them because of thefun and colorful graphics. This site is also versatile for many grade levelsand subjects, as it has link to arts and music as well as technology which isnot typical of educational websites. The value of the content is really immeasurable. Each subject area iseasily divided into the specific content area covered. For example, underthe subject of science, there are 12 animated video clips such as space, forces and motion, and weather. The site is easy to navigate through andfind links that can aid your subject and topics. There is even a link toconnect content to standards, which is convenient. I also find the contenton BrainPOP Jr. awesome because they have younger animated clipsavailable with games and even word walls. Another great aspect is theidea links to help any teacher connect ideas from others. My students lovethe videos and games and this site makes them interested and involved inthe learning process. This alone is truly immeasurable!

These two sites, BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr., can be used tointroduce a subject or theme with the movie or the “belly up” comic.Additionally, the games and word walls can be used to extend the activityand insure learning and understanding. The site can also be referred backto re-teach a subject that was not understood the first time or to refresh onan area that was forgotten of time. The site can also be used to check forindividual understanding if set up for students in center time, small groups,or computer lab time.I teach all subject areas for Kindergarten. It is impossible for me todetail all the specific subject areas that I can and will use. To show anaccurate example, I used the state standard search aspect under just thesubject of language arts. This is the results I have found, cut and pastedhere!GeorgiaGrade KGeorgiaGrade KGeorgiaGrade KGeorgiaGrade KLanguage Arts Performance Standardsa. I love that this site uses animated video to teach important andsometimes hard to understand topics.2. I love the extension activities available, such as a word wall, belly upcomics, and the games that are connected to the movies.3. I love that this software is very teacher friendly and connects easily toany subject area with little searching time needed.Three things I disliked about the software:1. I dislike the username and password requirement because it makes itthat much harder for students to access on their own or if theyaccidently log out of the site while playing.2. I dislike that my school has to pay for a subscription in order toaccess the site and sometimes it isn’t ready or paid when I want touse the site.3. Not as many extension activities as some other sites and it would benice if there was a way to check on each student’s activities andprogress with games. My Overall Recommendation:I recommend this website to all educators to at least try. I feel thatevery teacher can find an animated video they can use and that theirstudents will enjoy. I think this site is easy to navigate as well as to locatestandard based links.
