GRAND AM BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTRULES AND REGULATIONSGAME RULES All g<strong>am</strong>es will be played under NCAA <strong>rules</strong>. Any exceptions to those <strong>rules</strong> are listed below. Players are not allowed to wear jewelry of any kind during league play. Due to the potential for d<strong>am</strong>age to school property, dunking is prohibited at all times. A technical foul will be calledagainst any player that dunks <strong>and</strong> they will have to sit the m<strong>and</strong>atory 10 minutes. Te<strong>am</strong>s will be liable for d<strong>am</strong>age tobackboards. No points will be awarded for any dunks. Players are not allowed to hang on rims or snap rims. Players are also not allowed to hang on the net at any time.Grabbing, snapping, or hanging on the rim <strong>and</strong>/or net will result in a technical foul. Dunking during warm-ups or grabbing the rim <strong>and</strong>/or net will result in a technical foul. Offending players will sit the first10 minutes of the g<strong>am</strong>e.TIMESG<strong>am</strong>es will start at the time shown on the schedule or five minutes after the prior g<strong>am</strong>e if g<strong>am</strong>es are running behind.A maximum of 10 minutes will be allowed for warm up time. Warm up times will be reduced if g<strong>am</strong>es are runningbehind.Please be available at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. G<strong>am</strong>es will be forfeited five minutes after yourscheduled starting time if an insufficient number of players are available to play.G<strong>am</strong>es will consist of two 20:00 halves with the clock stopping on all whistles <strong>and</strong> dead balls. The clock will not stopafter a made basket.There is no shot clock.Each te<strong>am</strong> will receive three one-minute timeouts per g<strong>am</strong>e.Halftime is a five minute maximum.If the margin is greater than 25 points in the second half of play, then the clock will run for the remainder of the g<strong>am</strong>e.The first overtime will be 3:00. Any additional overtimes will be 1:00 in length.Te<strong>am</strong>s will have one 1-minute timeout in the overtime. Timeouts do not carryover from regulation time or to additionalovertimes.Overtimes will begin with a jump ball.If you are unsure of your next g<strong>am</strong>e time you must check with the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent director(s).TEAM REQUIREMENTS Te<strong>am</strong>s are responsible for bringing their own medical kit to the g<strong>am</strong>es (athletic tape, b<strong>and</strong>ages, ice packs, etc.). Score sheets must be filled in with n<strong>am</strong>es <strong>and</strong> numbers by te<strong>am</strong> captains before g<strong>am</strong>e time. First <strong>and</strong> last n<strong>am</strong>es arerequired for all players. Failure to comply with the <strong>rules</strong> will result in a technical foul. Te<strong>am</strong> members must wear the s<strong>am</strong>e color of shirt with visible numbers. Using athletic tape for numbers will not bepermitted. Any player that is a current high school student is not permitted to play in the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent – even if they are notplanning to play college <strong>basketball</strong>. This is an NCAA rule that we must abide by because we are using University ofNorth Dakota facilities. Current college players must play in the Open division. Players are responsible for confirming restrictions regardingcollege eligibility. Check with your coach.


No former college players (including red-shirted players or those that participated even one day) are permitted to play inthe Recreation division.Former Division I or Division II players must play in the Open division unless otherwise approved by the tourn<strong>am</strong>entdirector(s).Te<strong>am</strong>s with three or more former college players must play in the Open or A division.Former or current professional players must contact the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent director(s) regarding participation.The tourn<strong>am</strong>ent directors reserve the right to reclassify te<strong>am</strong>s in order to promote equal competition. Te<strong>am</strong>s winning adivision may be bumped up a division the following year. If te<strong>am</strong>s cannot compete at the next level, they may appeal tomove back down the following year. A te<strong>am</strong> with three or more returning players is considered to be the s<strong>am</strong>e te<strong>am</strong> asthe previous year. Tourn<strong>am</strong>ent director(s) will make final decisions on the appeals.All players must be listed on the te<strong>am</strong> roster. Substitutes are not permitted.Te<strong>am</strong>s are subject to being checked for age <strong>and</strong> identification. ID’s must be available at all times.Te<strong>am</strong>s playing with illegal players will forfeit their g<strong>am</strong>e.You are only allowed to compete on one roster in the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent unless you are over 30 years of age <strong>and</strong> you wish tocompete in the men’s Open or A division as well as one of the age divisions. Schedules will not be adjusted toaccommodate players competing with more than one te<strong>am</strong>.A player may be on more than one roster, but not in the s<strong>am</strong>e division. Schedules may not accommodate playersplaying on more than one te<strong>am</strong>.No former college players are allowed in the Recreation division unless they are age 45 or over <strong>and</strong> have writtenapproval from the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent director(s).Te<strong>am</strong>s may play with four players. Te<strong>am</strong>s with less than four players must forfeit.Te<strong>am</strong>s must start play on time if they have four players available. Players may enter the g<strong>am</strong>e late as long as they are onthe roster.The deadline to make roster changes is 5:00 p.m. on March 18. Roster change requests must be made via e-mail toJustin Johnson at jjohnson@choicehf.com or Mike Orr at morr@choicehf.com. Please include the n<strong>am</strong>e <strong>and</strong> info forthe player(s) you are adding <strong>and</strong> the players(s) you are replacing.FOULS When a technical foul occurs, the player must sit for 10 minutes of the g<strong>am</strong>e. If a technical foul occurs with less than 10minutes remaining in a g<strong>am</strong>e, the player will sit the rest of the g<strong>am</strong>e <strong>and</strong> the remainder of the 10 minutes at the start ofthe next g<strong>am</strong>e. Players sitting for a technical foul cannot re-enter the g<strong>am</strong>e, even if a te<strong>am</strong> is short on players. If the player commits a second technical foul in a g<strong>am</strong>e, the player is ejected from the g<strong>am</strong>e <strong>and</strong> may be suspendedfor the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent. Players ejected from a g<strong>am</strong>e must leave the building immediately. Failure to do so will result insuspension from the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent <strong>and</strong> a forfeit will be assessed to the te<strong>am</strong>. Any players initiating a fight with another player, making unwanted or unwarranted contact with an official, orthreatening a player or official will be suspended from the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent indefinitely. Any player suspended from the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent must apply for re-instatement in future years.CONDUCT AND INTERACTION WITH OFFICIALS AND SITE SUPERVISORS The coach/manager (identified at the start of the g<strong>am</strong>e) will be the only te<strong>am</strong> spokesperson on all matters. This privilegeis given only for clarification of a call or situation that occurs. At no time shall the coach/manager interrupt play, use unsportsmanlike conduct, use profanity, or badger the officials.(Any player abusing this rule shall be given a warning <strong>and</strong>/or technical foul at the discretion of the official). Players who have consumed alcoholic beverages before playing will be required to leave. Failure to do so will result in aforfeit. Te<strong>am</strong>s must show respect to all fellow players, referees, <strong>and</strong> workers in the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent. Tourn<strong>am</strong>ent director(s) reservethe right to eject any player or te<strong>am</strong> that is disrupting the tourn<strong>am</strong>ent. In such case, there will be no refund of fees.
