Bioblitz<br />

The Bioblitz helps make everyone—particularly <strong>you</strong>ng<br />

adults <strong>and</strong> families—more aware of <strong>Montréal</strong>’s biodiversity,<br />

with scientists organizing recreational activities within<br />

a large park.<br />

This season, Angrignon Park will host scientists <strong>and</strong><br />

other members of the community for two days of activities,<br />

including an inventory of the park’s biodiversity. This<br />

event will be an opportunity to broa<strong>de</strong>n our un<strong>de</strong>rst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />

of efforts to protect biodiversity in <strong>Montréal</strong>’s large<br />

parks (inventories, control of invasive species, etc.) <strong>and</strong><br />

to meet specialists (biologists, tree growers, wildlife technicians,<br />

botanists, etc.) who work in the field.<br />

Information collected over these two days will be posted<br />

on line <strong>and</strong> will be used to <strong>de</strong>velop a park discovery walk<br />

associated with BioTrousse <strong>Montréal</strong>. Furthermore, an<br />

annual schedule of eco-citizen activities (environmental<br />

follow-up, <strong>green</strong> briga<strong>de</strong>s, etc.) will be offered to those<br />

who wish to pursue their involvement <strong>and</strong> participate in a<br />

better un<strong>de</strong>rst<strong>and</strong>ing of urban biodiversity.<br />

Angrignon Farm will be closed this season.<br />

There will be multiple <strong>de</strong>partures from the big tent (follow directions<br />

from the park’s northern entrance) during the day. Activities last about<br />

one hour <strong>and</strong> a naturalist will accompany each group. Groups are<br />

organized on site.<br />

The park is subdivi<strong>de</strong>d into different sectors for various activities:<br />

• Morning bird watching <strong>and</strong> i<strong>de</strong>ntification.<br />

• Fyke-net pond inventories.<br />

• Aquatic insects.<br />

• Forest inventories with shingles for garter snakes.<br />

• Scientific seine fishing during lunch (Aliments Fontaine Santé will offer<br />

snacks to participants <strong>and</strong> volunteers).<br />

• I<strong>de</strong>ntification of field insects <strong>and</strong> soil fauna.<br />

• I<strong>de</strong>ntification of aquatic invertebrates.<br />

Scientists <strong>and</strong> scientific organizations will have booths near the big tent<br />
