ProceduresPrior to <strong>the</strong> <strong>viewing</strong> activity, participants were given a short list <strong>of</strong> vocabularywords and phrases used in each <strong>movie</strong> to prepare <strong>the</strong>m for better understanding <strong>of</strong>what <strong>the</strong> characters say in <strong>the</strong> <strong>movie</strong>. (Appendix A)After <strong>movie</strong> <strong>viewing</strong>, questionnaires (in Chinese) (Appendix B for Chineseversion <strong>of</strong> questionnaire and appendix C for English version <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> questionnaire.)with 19 questions were given for participants to fill up. In this survey, questionnaireswere used to collect information because <strong>the</strong> questionnaire has been proven atrustworthy method to get feedback on issues <strong>of</strong> interest (Sheng Jhuan Lin, 2003).A post-<strong>viewing</strong> test (Appendix D) was administered to <strong>the</strong> participants to see howmuch <strong>the</strong>y had learned through <strong>the</strong> <strong>viewing</strong> activity. The test was designed tomeasure a participant’s ability to recognize <strong>the</strong> key words and target sentences thatwere repeated in <strong>the</strong> similar scenes throughout <strong>the</strong> film four or five times. All <strong>the</strong>seprocedures for this study were conducted in <strong>the</strong> 2nd Semester <strong>of</strong> 2009.Data analysisStatistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS12.0), a tool for statisticalanalysis, was used to analyze <strong>the</strong> data.6
