HOW TO FIND USFrom the A720Take the exit towards the A703. At theroundabout, take the 2nd exit onto theA702 Biggar Road. Welcometo <strong>North</strong> <strong>Merchiston</strong> <strong>Care</strong> Home<strong>North</strong> <strong>Merchiston</strong> is a new purpose built care home providing a highstandard of nursing and social care within a small homely unit.The home has six units: two residential care units, two general nursingunits and two specialist support units enabling the delivery of flexiblecare to residents with a wide range of needs. Residents are admittedto <strong>North</strong> <strong>Merchiston</strong> care home. The unit they are placed in may changeover time as their needs change e.g. at different stages of dementia.All placements are arranged through the City of Edinburgh Council.The home is located within the heart of the community, a short distancefrom Edinburgh city centre close to local shops and other amenitiesincluding Harrison Park.<strong>Four</strong> <strong>Seasons</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Care</strong>, the City of Edinburgh Council and NHS Lothianare working in partnership to provide high quality care in an environmentspecially designed to provide small group living and personal space.The design and layout of the home maximises resident independenceand the choices they can make. We have a user friendly gardenaccessible to residents and their families. First Class <strong>Care</strong>Our person centred approach meansthat each resident is an individual treatedwith respect and dignity. Each residenthas a named key worker and anindividual care plan. This will cover theirpersonal and medical history, as wellas a record of particular activities theyenjoy and any cultural or religiousaspects of their care.Residents, and where appropriate theirfamilies, are involved as far as practicalin the decisions regarding their care.Emphasis on all aspects of care is theManager’s primary concern and, togetherwith the experienced team of qualifiedstaff, all adhere to rigorous standardswith internal audits and checks.At <strong>North</strong> <strong>Merchiston</strong>, we have anexcellent working relationship withthe partners from the local GP practice.We very much recognise theimportance of personal, individualand resident focused care. To achievethis, good communication betweenall members of the care team, bethey nurses, carers, relatives ordoctors, is essential.


Facilities<strong>North</strong> <strong>Merchiston</strong> is set in pleasantlandscaped gardens with a furnishedpatio for residents and visitors to enjoy.We also have a sensory garden whichhas proven to be beneficial toresidents’ health.The home is tastefully decorated andeach unit benefits from a bright spaciouslounge with flat screen television anda quiet lounge to relax in. The homehas large bedrooms, all with en suitefacilities. As the home is set over threestoreys, there are lifts and passengerstairways to access the different floors.At <strong>North</strong> <strong>Merchiston</strong> we have severalinviting dining rooms where our Chefprovides nutritionally balanced menus thatare carefully prepared to ensurethe best combination of nutritionand flavour for our residents.At <strong>North</strong> <strong>Merchiston</strong> <strong>Care</strong> Home thereis a hair dressing salon which is visitedregularly by an experienced stylist.Other complementary therapiescan be tailored to individual needsand the home is attended frequentlyby a qualified chiropodist.Our <strong>Care</strong> Home has a large activitiesroom and we offer a full activitiesprogramme. All activities are basedon meaningful activities taking intoaccount every individual’s interests andhobbies. We have dedicated PersonalActivities Leaders who ensure ourresidents can enjoy an active social lifeif they wish, and residents can get involvedin hobbies of their choice and take part inactivities that interest them.
