283283THE SILVER-MOUNTED DRESSING CASE OF CAPTAIN S.G.HARDING, LONDON SILVER HALLMARKS FOR 1914-15including two ivory-mounted razors, boot-hooks, scissors,numerous pill boxes, and powder containers, the silver lidsengraved with the owner’s crest, contained in a two-tieredvelvet-lined case veneered in rosewood, the corners boundwith brass and the lid fitted with an escutcheon engraved withthe owner’s initials, and retaining part of its original leathercover embossed ‘Captain S.G. Harding’ (one pillbox chipped)‘Lieut. Harding is the Regimental Survey Officer of 53Heavy Regiment RA. On 24th Oct. 44 he was ordered tosurvey four battery positions in the region of Schindel toenable the Regiment to harass the enemy retreating acrossthe river Maas. While on his reconnaissance his jeep wasblown up by a mine and his driver was killed. Althoughsuffering from severe shock and injuries, Lieut. Hardingcompleted his task and the positions were ready foroccupation by the guns that evening.’ Taken from ArmyForm W.3121.Lieutenant S.V.G. Harding was mentioned in despatches, 4June 1946.
