<strong>Highland</strong> Middle <strong>School</strong> <strong>PTO</strong> minutes<br />

September 10, 2012<br />

Call to order: The <strong>PTO</strong> meeting was called to order at 6:01pm. Members at attendance were Angeline<br />

Zimmerman, Annie Backs, Jennifer Alexander, Joanne Slagle, Rese Vis, Jodie Aurand <strong>PTO</strong> president<br />

Rebekah Thompson, <strong>PTO</strong> Vice President Trisha Kelly, Vice Principal Maureen Farag, Treasurer Nick<br />

Kikalos and Secretary Lynn LeNeave. Guest Dawn Hartman from Dickey’s Bbq Pit<br />

Secretary Minutes: The meeting minutes were available and approved for August. First motion to<br />

approve was by Trisha Kelly and second motion was by Mrs. Farag.<br />

Treasurer’s Report: The 2012/2013 revised proposed budget was review with the minor adjustments.<br />

There was a motion to approve the proposed budget for 2012/2013 year. First motion was by Rebekah<br />

Thompson, second to motion was by Joanne Slagle.<br />

Committee Reports:<br />

Vice PrincipalReport: Mrs. Farag reported that the six grade hall was complete and the kids are doing<br />

well with the transition to the new school.<br />

Market Day: Jennifer Alexander was present we need to get the word out for more parents are aware <strong>of</strong><br />

placing orders for market day. Discussed to possible distribute handouts to the kids so the parents will<br />

have link for Market Day. The link is on the schools website at the Spartan Spotlight.<br />

Fall Fundraiser: The fall fundraiser ended today. Will be collecting the final orders till the end <strong>of</strong> this<br />

week, and then working on who was the top seller.<br />

Old Business:<br />

Donation Letter: Donation letter is completed to be distributed to area business for donations <strong>of</strong> gift<br />

card for prefect attendance, honor roll and teachers birthdays etc.<br />

Birthday Club: donations for teacher’s birthdays are welcome who ever would like to bake treats for the<br />

teachers who are celebrating their birthdays that month. Please sign up with <strong>PTO</strong>.<br />

Walk-a-ton: Trying to see what is best time <strong>of</strong> the year to do the walk-a-ton if the fall or spring. What<br />

time could be used for the walk-a-ton, would it be best during discover or SRT? Will be further<br />

discussing at the next <strong>PTO</strong> meeting what would be best.<br />

New Digital Sign Plan/ Fundraiser: A proposal was given for the new lighted sign for the middle school.<br />

Book fair: Jodi Aurand was present who would be in charge <strong>of</strong> the book fair. Proposed dates <strong>of</strong> running<br />

the book fair was November 19, 20 and 21. Three weeks before the book fair propose to run the web


site link in the Spartan Spotlight so parents can place online orders. Proposed Sites to have the book fair<br />

would be the LGI room or the Blue Gym would have to check it they are being use.<br />

Membership Drive: 61 memberships <strong>of</strong> parents and teachers as <strong>of</strong> today. Incentive for staff members<br />

who sign up the first week could have won a gift card .Incentive for parents if they signed up by open<br />

house were entered into a drawing for a gift card for spirit ware. The Spartan Spotlight has the<br />

membership form online.<br />

New Business:<br />

Dickey’s BBQ Pit: Dickey’s Fundraising Rep- Dawn Hartman presented that Dickey’s would like the<br />

school to have a Dickey’s night. It would run 5-8pm and they would donate five percent <strong>of</strong> total sales to<br />

the school. They will donate incentive programs for the students for prefect attendance, honor roll and<br />

birthday club. Mrs. Hartman bought in samples to try to the <strong>PTO</strong> meeting. Will start in October for<br />

Dickey’s fundraising for the new digital sign.<br />

Fundraising for new digital sign:<br />

Spirit Days: Purpose in October to have spirit days for the kids. In order for the kids to participate they<br />

will have to pay one dollar to the discover teacher to wear crazy hats, sweaters etc. during the school<br />

day. The money raised will go to the new sign fund.<br />

Middle <strong>School</strong> Concession Stand: Proposed to have a concession stand at Lincoln center during the<br />

Middle school Dance all pr<strong>of</strong>its going to the new sign fund. The concession stand would consist <strong>of</strong> drinks<br />

and snacks that the kids can buy when they are at the dance. The dances are held once a month on<br />

Fridays 7-9 pm. We would ask for parents to volunteer to work the concession stand.<br />

Ultra Foods: Proposed to save receipts from Ultra Foods. They will donate a percent <strong>of</strong> the total receipts<br />

turned to the school.<br />

Honor Roll/Perfect attendance Incentives: Donation received from Underdog and Dickey’s and ice<br />

cream sandwiches will be distributed to the kids.<br />

6 TH grade Hall: Mrs. Farag proposed to have the <strong>PTO</strong> purchase tack strips for 6th grade halls. The exact<br />

measurements will be need for the correct amount <strong>of</strong> tack strips need for the 6 th grade hall.<br />

Next Meeting Date: Monday October 8 th , 2012<br />

Adjournment: Motion to adjourn Rebekah Thompson and Second to motion to adjourn Nick Kikolas.<br />

Meeting adjourns at 7:11pm.<br />
