Our <strong>YMCAs</strong> serve eight communities across our region through services thatinclude; health & wellness, licensed childcare, and community development including employment, youthleadership and immigrant settlement programming. Our YMCA has 350 employees and more than 400volunteers, with membership centres in Chatham‐Kent, Goderich‐Huron, Lambton Shores, North Middlesex,Central‐Huron and Sarnia‐Lambton. In 2011 these <strong>YMCAs</strong> served over 15,000 members, 7,500 individuals andfamilies, and an additional 20,000 users annually.Nature and Scope:The <strong>Supervisor</strong> is responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality care, curriculum support and implementation,and counseling and child development for the children and families enrolled at the Centre including a Beforeand After school program. A critical component of their responsibility is to achieve enrollment targets andbudget plans for the centre, monitor enrollment waiting lists and work with families to support their child careneeds. The supervisor provides on‐site leadership, staff supervision and coaching, developing centre staff andensuring the Centre maintains the operating license by monitoring compliance with all applicable legislation andregulations.The hours of operation for the <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Care</strong> Centre are 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Work schedulesinvolve a variety of shifts including some evenings and weekends. The work week is based on 8 hours per day;40 hours per week – subject to change based on operational and enrollment demands.<strong>Supervisor</strong>s provide a professional role model as it relates to adhering to the YMCA’s SAM (Serving all Members)2.0 standards; are accessible to answer questions and respond to concerns and foster positive relationships withall participants.Job Tasks:1. Responsible for the preparation and implementation of program plans; ensure a wide variety ofdevelopmentally appropriate activities including social, creative, emotional, cognitive and physical activitiesare provided; advance implementation of the <strong>YMCAs</strong> Play to Learn curriculum; ensure services levels aredelivered and maintained to YMCA standards and where applicable the Ontario Curriculum Guide; ensureservices levels are delivered and maintained to YMCA standards.


2. Supervise the day to day Centre operations, including scheduling and rescheduling in order to maintainchild staff ratio on a daily basis, payroll, submissions, recommendation for hire, interviewing, orientation,training, coaching and disciplinary action up to level of authority of centre staff and volunteers.3. Read, and maintain working knowledge of, and compliance with guidelines/regulations, of the DayNurseries Act and YMCA Policies and Procedures including documentation control and notifications.4. Ensure operational compliances for Ministry, County and Health Department requirements on a daily basis.5. Purchase equipment and supplies as needed within delegation of authority. Determine equipment needswhen required to apply for county funding and purchase equipment.6. Assist in providing direct delivery of program plans as required, implementing YMCA Play to LearnCurriculum and ensuring and the completion of documentations and daily journals by staff in accordancewith all ministry, country, health and YMCA regulations.7. Oversee all kitchen activities within the Centre including menu planning and posting, meal preparation, anddelivery and clean up; record keeping and safety inspections in compliance with Health Department, andother applicable legislation and policy regulations.8. Direct and advise professional and non‐professional staff and volunteers delivering services and programsto the general public, community or parents, participants; provide leadership to the department.9. Ensure recruitment, retention and performance management strategies are in place to build an effectiveteam.10. Track and resolve open issues pertaining to programs and services, develop control documents to gathercontinuous feedback from internal and external customers required to conduct regular quality reviews.11. Maintain a working environment with open communication where employees and volunteers feelappreciated and supported; facilitate appropriate and timely solutions when conflict arises.12. Identify report and/or make arrangements for general maintenance and repairs required to ensure workspace is safe for self and others.13. Actively maintain personal work space and equipment ensuring a neat, clean, safe environment andequipment at all times; complete incident report forms when necessary.14. Present a professional appearance at all times; adhering to the YMCA dress code policy, including a visiblenametag and an engaging smile.15. Plan, administer and control approved budgets for programs, equipment and support services, within levelof authority; monitor monthly expenditures for the area of responsibility and complete variance reportvariances to the Manager; implement and monitor the established annual financial plan for the area ofresponsibility to ensure area is achieving targets (financial, enrolment and staff ratios).16. Assess operational issues in regards to competitiveness, staying current in terms of trends and innovations.17. Liaison with local community partners, board of education officials and attend meetings for the purpose ofrepresenting the Associations interests.18. Provide input in the functional area policy and procedure development; promotional plans and specialevents, as required.19. Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and applicable industry standards for Occupational Health& Safety, Human Rights Act, Accessibility of Ontario Act (AODA) and Employment <strong>St</strong>andards.20. Develop, in consultation with the Manager, annual performance objectives for self; coach and support thedevelopment of annual performance objectives for management team; approve and hold teamaccountable.21. Act or delegate a representative to act on behalf of the Association in negotiating contracts, licensingrequirements, or other official functions within delegated authority.22. Make presentations regarding programs etc.23. Achieve annual giving objectives while developing, in conjunction with the Financial Development division,new philanthropic opportunities.24. Attend professional development workshops, organizational meetings; conduct regular monthly staffmeetings.


25. May lead or be involved in workgroups specializing in particular service area within the branch orAssociation.26. Participate on the Senior Leadership Circle through regular attendance at meetings and training.Attendance at Managers Counsel as directed by the Manager.Qualifications: College Diploma in Early <strong>Child</strong>hood Education; post secondary education in business preferred; activeregistered member of the College of Early <strong>Child</strong>hood Educators. 3 – 5 years working experience in the discipline of early childhood education, at least 12 months of whichhave been in a responsible supervisory position. Knowledge of the YMCA Play to Learn curriculum, an asset. Enrollment in YMCA Canada Leadership/Management Development programs and/or similartraining/certification. Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated excellent customer serviceskills. Ability to travel to for meetings, training etc. must be flexible to work a variety of shifts including openingand closing; occasional evenings, weekends and holidays. Intermediate level of working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other data based tracking software. Current Food Handler’s Certificate, required. Current First Aid and CPR, required. Current Satisfactory Criminal Record Check – vulnerable sector, required. Valid Ontario Drivers License and access to personal vehicle for business use.
