Operative laparoscopy has advanced so tremendously that profi ciency in
suturing is a mandatory skill. Th e progressive algorithm for laparoscopic
suturing as described in the “Vertical Zone” has been taught and tested
over many years nationally and internationally. All courses include preand
post-testing following instruction in the structured curriculum.
Th e metrics have repeatedly shown that over 80% of preceptees achieve
tying an intracorporeal knot in less than 3 minutes. Th is includes
practicing gynecologists, residents, and fellows. Th ere is good fi delity,
concurrent and face validity with the technique described, as the relative
hand positions and movements are immediately transferable from the
trainer to the O.R. Th is course equips all attendees with improved
suturing skills and insight into applications during surgery. Algorithms
for standing on the right and left side of the patient will be taught, with
progression from simple interrupted to continuous and cinch knots.
