The sector with themost restrictive market access regulation is found to be public administration anddefense. Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, information andcommunications, and arts, entertainment, and recreation have quite restrictive regulationof market access. By contrast, market access regulation is rather relaxed inmanufacturing and accommodation and food service activities. Turning to the marketaccess restrictions by country, we find that tight restrictions are imposed in Thailand,Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Indonesia. In Thailand many sectors, except formanufacturing, set an upper limit to foreign equity ownership, while in Lao PDR,Myanmar and Indonesia, FDI is not allowed in several sectors. In Lao PDR, marketaccess is not allowed in information and communication, and public administration, while in Myanmar market access is not allowed in the following sectors, informationand communication, financial and insurance businesses, and public administration.
