The 23rd Annual Lonny Brewer Memorial GolfTournament will take place at Eastlake Country Club onMonday, Sept. 20. The $100 per person fee includes cart rental,green fee, and dinner. All members <strong>of</strong> your foursome must becurrently working for or retired from law enforcement.The tournament is played each year to honor and rememberLonny Gene Brewer, who was shot and killed Dec. 5, 1987,by a suspect who had barricaded himself in his home. As amember <strong>of</strong> SED for two years, Lonny Brewer had been onthe department since 1980, working both detentions andpatrol. As Sheriff John Duffy said in his eulogy, “The phrase‘killed in the line <strong>of</strong> duty’ ends his career and his life onthis earth. That phrase will give us cause to honor him, andremember him forever.”Proceeds from this popular tournament benefit the DSFscholarship fund, which awards a scholarship in thename <strong>of</strong> each fallen deputy from the <strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong><strong>County</strong> Sheriff’s Department. During the June 10 board meeting, the board voted to decreasethe member contribution to the Legal Defense Plan to <strong>of</strong>fset the increase in dues paid bymembers. Effective with payroll 14 on <strong>July</strong> 9, <strong>2010</strong>, your dues will be allocated as per theabove chart.
