With abrand new, state-of-the-art productionfacility in Bedburg, Germany and nolonger producing ConcreteEquipment, <strong>SANY</strong> Germany GmbH needed to findalternative products to justify its €100 million investmentinto heart of the European Union.<strong>SANY</strong> Germany GmbH benefitted from <strong>SANY</strong> Group’sextensive product line and was able to research andinvestigate which existing products in <strong>SANY</strong> Group’sportfolio would be most appropriate for the EuropeanMarket. In 2012, <strong>SANY</strong> Germany GmbH concluded thatmobile port machinery (Reachstackers, Empty ContainerHandlers, and Heavy Duty Forklifts) would be best suitedto be fabricated and produced in Germany, along withCrawler Cranes and Hydraulic Excavators. The mainreasons for this decision were the market size of Europe,which is the largest consumer of port equipment, theclose vicinity to top quality suppliers, such as Kessler,Volvo, IFM, Hansa Flex, Bosch Rexroth, Bucher, etc andthe overall outstanding quality of the product.Now, as a result of careful strategic planning andcooperation from Port Machinery Division, <strong>SANY</strong>Germany GmbH has now reentered the European marketas an extension of <strong>SANY</strong> Port Machinery BU producingCE Certified mobile port machinery.<strong>SANY</strong> Germany GmbH’s in house R&D team focuses onmobile port machinery design, CE modifications, andinnovated technologies. The Contract value is more than 10 million USD,and the cranes are supposed to be delivered in June of 2014.RSGT Terminal, located in Red Sea, almost 120 km from Mecca, Holy city of Islam, is the biggest terminal ofJeddah Islamic Port (JIP), covering an area of almost half million squre meters. Motor grader cannot bestartedFailure symptoms:A motor grader in Chuantie Company(Equipment number: 08PY00540309)had a problem on April 19, 2011 andcouldn’t be started up.Failure analysis:First we switched on the power and thedisplay screen was turned on. Whenthe machine was put into gear, therewas no change in PLC input.Then we opened the electrical cabinetand found the PLC input indicatorslights were not on. We checked 1Minput point and found there was novoltage input, and the circuit boardstabilizer U1 was highly heated.Possible reason for the failure:Based on the above tests, it can beinferred that there was short circuit inline 302 in the part when circuit passedstabilizer U1.Trouble-shooting process:Output end of line 302 is divided in foursub-lines – 1M input point, left and rightspeed sensors and oil-water separator.After measuring one by one, it wasfound that the oil-water separatorcircuit has a short circuit. Throughfurther checking, it’s found that theshort circuit lied in the connection plug.We replaced the plug and the problemwas solved.2. Abnormal sound ingearbox of truck craneFailure symptoms:When joystick of a truck crane was setat low-speed gears (1st-4th gear), theequipment could travel normally at allgears. When joystick was set at highspeedgears (5th – 8th gear), theequipment could not drive, and therewas a big clucking sound coming fromthe gearbox.Failure analysis:The fact that, the machine workednormally when the gearbox is set atlow-speed gears (1st-4th gear), butcould not travel when set at highspeedgears (5th – 8th gear), indicatedthat the auxiliary transmissionsynchronizer could not be set at highgear.Possible reason for the failure:1. There was insufficient pressure inthe gas circuit or the gas circuit wasblocked.2. Auxiliary transmission synchronizerdamaged, or high-gear friction tape ofsynchronizer damaged.Trouble-shooting process:1. Switch between high and low gearsby pushing buttons on the joystick. Ifthere is sound of gas vent at thecylinder and sound of clucking gears, itcan be inferred that there is noproblem with the gas circuit.2. Open the auxiliary transmission andcheck the synchronizer. It was foundthat high-gear friction tape wascompletely ground away and turnedblack. We asked service staff fromFAST (gearbox producer) to change anew synchronizer and the equipmentworked normally.Knowledge gained:When there is strange sound from thegearbox, first check where the soundcomes from by listening. Then figureout specific reason by switching gears.If it’s found that it works normally atlow-speed gears (1st – 4th gears), butabnormally at high-speed gears (5th –8th gear), or the opposite, it can beinferred that there is problem with thesynchronizer. Then carry outcorresponding inspections to confirm.3.
