It istherefore proposed that the Edinburgh CanalStrategy is developed around a series of ‘hubs’ withinwhich canal moorings, canal-side and canal-relateddevelopment can be focused.THE CANAL HUBSThe Strategy identifies seven hubs at:• Ratho,• The Calders• Wester Hailes Town Centre,• Hailes Quarry Park• Meggetland,• Harrison Park• Lochrin Basin. These hubs link within West Lothian and their role infacilitating use of the Union Canal within Edinburgh. To encourage waterway activity along the Union Canalinto Edinburgh it is proposed that a key objective ofthe Waterspace Strategy is to ensure each hub hasits own specific function whilst retaining the existingcharacter of the built and natural environment andprotecting the local community.BROXBURNIT Y C OF EDINBURGH COUNCILC O U N CILW E S T LOT H I A N24 December 2011 City of Edinburgh Council City Development
