No longer will there be the scurry of feet, the babble ofvoices between lectures, muted apologies to lecturers, shouts of glee andpeals of laughter from the Common Room. You are leaving Frankston.For better Or worse you have changed - perhaps in some cases everso subtly - since your arr ival. From a position of comparative lack ofresponsibility you are assuming a mantle of great responsibility . . . youhave become a teacher! Moreover, a primary teacher and despite manycommon fallacies you have a tremendous part to play in our communitylife .The thought that we would like to leave you with is that your pupilis essentiaHy a being in the process of formation. Do not stress goals andambitions too much . We hear too much of examinations and good jobsthat must be obtained. We hear all too little of the fact that sometime'Sthe pleasure and character-formation ga ined from pursuing a goal is moreimportant than the goal itself. It is not of primary importance that ourpupil-s become wealthy, successful or famous. It matters that they developthe right ideas and att itudes towards knowledge, recreation, culture and, their "neighbours".Thus we bid farewell to those leaving College and hope they can reflectwith satisfaction on their ach ievements d uring the last two or threeyears. At the same time the exies can feel confident that the returningstudents will maintain the academic standard'S and continue the social activitiesthat ' have become their new responsibilities.May the Chr istmas period and the future bring happiness and successto you all.
