We are the Spartans!By Marti Williams<strong>Giles</strong> offense prepares to score against the Radford Bobcats for the title of DistrictChamps.<strong>Giles</strong> football has given the wholecounty something to get excited about!Our 2011 season not only started offwith a bang but continued to sky rocketas time passed. As the weather grewcolder, our fans’ anticipation andsupport only continued to intensify aswe played our way through each game.Soon enough the question arised, “Willwe make it to playoffs this year”?Thanks to our teams stunningperformance underneath those Fridaynight lights, the answer was anemphatic yes! After beating theRadford Bobcats the Spartans foundthemselves District Champs. Back athome the fans couldn’t have been moreexcited to be a part of the spectacularteam’s season. Immediately thecheerleaders began to plan out ways toboost the county’s spirit. From pep rallies to spirit weeks, <strong>Giles</strong> <strong>High</strong> had it all! Upon walking through the high school doors, one’seyes would be amazed by the stunning decorations used to celebrate the hype of the <strong>Giles</strong> Spartans. Unfortunately, with it being late inthe season the team was dealt an unlucky hand and lost to Gretna, knocking them out of their playoff spot. While this may have been adisappointing blow for such a successful season, clearly these players have left a year of football that will be remembered bygenerations to come. Congratulations boys(and Afton) and don’t forget that your school is very proud of you!The Spartans continue drive their offense against Gretnain order to maintain their playoff spot.Our Spartan team breaks down for one of the final plays atthe Radford game.23
