Front Panel FeaturesFamiliarizationThe Messenger Nano is designed to be mounted on a standard 35mm DIN rail. All connectors and indicatorsare located on the front face of the module as pictured below:MMCX Antenna ConnectorLED status indicatorsRS-232 & RS-485 SerialData Interface & LEDsAn industry standard micro antennaconnector. Generally, a short “pigtail”antenna cable connects fromhere to larger “Type N”antennaconnector to interface to the rest ofthe antenna system. The Messenger Nano module hasfour independent green LEDindicators, one that is illuminatedwhen DC power is applied, and theremainder to indicate theapproximate signal strength of thelast received transmission. The RSSILEDs sequence rapidly if a link cannotbe established – no link to Master. The RS-232 and RS-485 interface utilize an RJ-45 connector. The pinout of thisconnector is described in the Installation Section. A standard Ethernet cablemay be used to connect between this connector and the serial ports on ICLSCADA controllers and RTUs. An additional DB-9 or DB-25 adapter may beobtained from ICL for connecting to third party serial devices using an Ethernetcable. This feature eliminates soldering or crimping in the field.Depending on the setting of a configuration DIP switch, the Rx and Tx LEDseither blink with incoming and outgoing data on the selected data port, or showradio link status (Rx when a valid packet has been received and Tx when theradio is actually sending data “over the air”).USB ConnectorDC Power Terminal BlockThe Messenger Nanos support a USB connection in addition to the serialinterface above. The USB connector is a standard “micro USB” type availablelocally, or from ICL.DC power for the Messenger Nano radios, from 10 to 30Vdc, is supplied via thisterminal block. DC power cannot be supplied by the USB connector, since therequired current draw during transmissions exceeds the USB standard.Copyright © 2012 Industrial Control Links, Inc.
