Regulatory Framework<br />
DIRECTIVE 2004/18/EU of 31 March 2004 on the coord<strong>in</strong>ation of procedures<br />
for the award of public works contracts, public supply contracts <strong>and</strong> public<br />
service contracts<br />
Italy: Law 163/2006 (modify<strong>in</strong>g the Law 109/1994)<br />
� Design verification <strong>and</strong> validation is required before contract<strong>in</strong>g (strictly<br />
m<strong>and</strong>atory for works above 20 Milions €)<br />
� The design validation contents are specified by law <strong>and</strong> shall <strong>in</strong>clude:<br />
� completeness of design documentation<br />
� verification of design contents (calculation, bill of quantity, etc.)<br />
� coherence between technical reports <strong>and</strong> draw<strong>in</strong>gs<br />
� verification of discrepancies between designs (variants’ m<strong>in</strong>imization)<br />
� reliability <strong>and</strong> functional feasibility of a design (constructability)<br />
� Design validation must be executed by accredited third <strong>party</strong> <strong><strong>in</strong>spection</strong><br />
bodies accord<strong>in</strong>g to ISO 17020 (works above 20 milions of Euros)
