CHARITIES WEEK 2013Charities Week has always been a highly anticipated eventat <strong>The</strong> <strong>Ashcombe</strong>, and Charities Week 2013 certainlyproved no exception. From the 25th February – 1st March,a variety <strong>of</strong> performances took place at lunchtime in themain hall, bringing a rush <strong>of</strong> pupils to the doors, all in hope<strong>of</strong> getting the best spot to watch the forthcoming show.show’s winners ‘L<strong>is</strong>ted’ made a brilliant fin<strong>is</strong>h. Adding tothe fun <strong>of</strong> th<strong>is</strong> year’s Charities Week was the dressing up <strong>of</strong>the 6th Formers. <strong>The</strong> week brought a variety <strong>of</strong> themes forfancy dress, including pyjama/onesie day and D<strong>is</strong>ney day.As well as providing excitement for pupils, Charities Week2013 ra<strong>is</strong>ed a total <strong>of</strong> £2611.40 for the well-deservingcauses <strong>Ashcombe</strong> are committed to helping. Studentdedication to making th<strong>is</strong> form <strong>of</strong> fundra<strong>is</strong>ing successfulwas exceptional, and Charities Week 2013 once againproved a great week for everyone at <strong>The</strong> <strong>Ashcombe</strong>.Starting the week <strong>of</strong>f was ‘Got to Dance’, which was a greatopportunity for all the budding dancers at the <strong>Ashcombe</strong>to show <strong>of</strong>f their skills. <strong>The</strong>re was a broad range <strong>of</strong>performances, and everyone - from Year 7 all the way to6th Form - was undoubtedly entertained.Tuesday’s Lower <strong>School</strong> Talent Show similarly proved a hitwith all the pupils, especially Ell<strong>is</strong> and h<strong>is</strong> guitar-playingaccompaniment, who provoked a roar for an encore fromthe audience. Wednesday’s performances most definitelystand out as some <strong>of</strong> the most memorable and outrageous,including the male teachers’ enactment <strong>of</strong> a Spice Girlsmelody in Teachers Got Talent! Continuing the trend <strong>of</strong>great shows was Thursday’s Fashion Show, whichincorporated a large dance performance into a successfulfashion show w<strong>here</strong> pupils got the chance to flaunt a range<strong>of</strong> clothes. Concluding the week was the Upper <strong>School</strong>Talent Show, which has repeatedly been a great finale overthe years. <strong>The</strong> performances didn’t fail to impress and theRETRO SPORTS DAYYear 11s marked their final Whole <strong>School</strong> Tutor Periodby holding a ‘retro sports day’. Dressed in florescentand 80s style ‘retro’ gear, over 200 pupils took part inevents such as the egg and spoon race, the sack race andthe three-legged race. It was a great success and enjoyedby all. <strong>The</strong> event was won by Mr Marshman’s tutorgroup, 11XS..
