YEAR 11 LEAVERS BALLOn Thursday 9th May, Year 11 <strong>Ashcombe</strong> studentsgat<strong>here</strong>d at Wotton House to celebrate the end <strong>of</strong> their timeat the school before their GCSE exams began. <strong>The</strong> arrival<strong>of</strong> students at the venue <strong>is</strong> always a much enjoyed occasion,with many parents staying to watch the means by whichthe pupils arrive. Th<strong>is</strong> year was certainly one for variety,from tanks to space hoppers and mobility scooters! It wasa fantastic evening and the pupils really enjoyed themselvesin spite <strong>of</strong> the rain and cold wind. <strong>The</strong> Year 11 teachers saidhow lovely it was to see the students looking so grown-upand smartly dressed - such a transformation from the youngYear 7s who arrived at the school 5 years ago. We w<strong>is</strong>hthem the best <strong>of</strong> luck in their forthcoming exams.YEAR 10 BIG BREAKFASTOn 17th April, pupils in Year 10 took part in an eventcalled ‘<strong>The</strong> Big Breakfast’ to ra<strong>is</strong>e money for theTeenage Cancer Trust, an organ<strong>is</strong>ation which <strong>The</strong><strong>Ashcombe</strong> <strong>School</strong> has been supporting for a number <strong>of</strong>years. 240 pupils met to enjoy a cooked or continentalbreakfast which ra<strong>is</strong>ed £350 for the Teenage CancerTrust. A further £650 <strong>of</strong> the money ra<strong>is</strong>ed at <strong>The</strong><strong>Ashcombe</strong>'s recent Charities Week brought the totalto £1000.We were delighted to welcome Nigel Revell, theDirector <strong>of</strong> Education and Advocacy at <strong>The</strong> TeenageCancer Trust to the school on Tuesday 14th May so thatwe could present the cheque to him. During h<strong>is</strong> v<strong>is</strong>it tothe school he was able to ra<strong>is</strong>e awareness <strong>of</strong> canceramongst teenagers and give the year group details <strong>of</strong>how their money would be spent.<strong>The</strong> cheque was presented by Year 10 charity committeemembers.
