All exams are web based and availablethrough <strong>DMACC</strong>’s test center after March 28 2011.IMPORTANT - Username and PasswordEach individual taking an exam will need to obtain a Quia username and password priorto arriving <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> test center. Please log onto <strong>the</strong> following web site for obtaining yourQuia username and password: http://www.quia.com/newstudent.html . A $20 fee will becollected for each test day. All exams needed may be taken provided <strong>the</strong> last exam isfinished 30 minutes prior to <strong>the</strong> close of <strong>the</strong> test center.Your Exam(s)<strong>Exams</strong> are available through Des Moines Area Community College (<strong>DMACC</strong>). <strong>DMACC</strong>is a smoke-free environment. Page 2 of 4Exam SecurityYou may not keep any exam m<strong>at</strong>erials after <strong>the</strong> exam. No exam m<strong>at</strong>erials may be removedfrom <strong>the</strong> exam room. We will prosecute <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ft of exam m<strong>at</strong>erials to <strong>the</strong> fullest extent possible.Recording Your AnswersThe exam is web based so <strong>the</strong>re are no paper exams or answer sheets. Your exam results arerecorded electronically and by <strong>the</strong> test center proctor.Passing ScoreEach exam is a closed-book exam. Each exam is a multiple choice exam varying in length from35 questions for c<strong>at</strong>egory exams, 50 questions for <strong>the</strong> Core Manual, Priv<strong>at</strong>e <strong>Applic<strong>at</strong>or</strong> andAerial Reciprocal exams and 125 questions for <strong>the</strong> full aerial exam. You will have up to fiftyminutes to one (1) hour to complete each exam with <strong>the</strong> exception of <strong>the</strong> full aerial exam whichwill allow two (2) hours. The minimum passing score for each commercial exam is 80% correct.The minimum passing score for priv<strong>at</strong>e applic<strong>at</strong>or exams is 70% correct.You should come to <strong>the</strong> exam room prepared to remain until <strong>the</strong> conclusion of <strong>the</strong> exam. If youleave <strong>the</strong> exam room during <strong>the</strong> exam for any reason (for example, to e<strong>at</strong>, drink, use <strong>the</strong>restroom or smoke) your exam will be concluded and all exam m<strong>at</strong>erials must be returned.Before leaving <strong>the</strong> exam room you must follow <strong>the</strong> required exam check-out procedures given toyou by <strong>the</strong> exam proctor. If you are scheduled to take more than one exam, you may beallowed to leave <strong>the</strong> exam room between exams. (<strong>DMACC</strong> is a smoke-free environment.Smoking is not permitted anywhere on campus including parking lots.)Special Accommod<strong>at</strong>ionsThe exam site is handicapped accessible. If you feel you need special accommod<strong>at</strong>ionspursuant to <strong>the</strong> Americans with Disabilities Act, you must document and submit your request inwriting so th<strong>at</strong> it is received by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Pesticide</strong> Bureau, Iowa Department of Agriculture not lessthan twenty-one (21) days prior to <strong>the</strong> d<strong>at</strong>e of your exam. We will notify you before exam day ifyour request is approved or disapproved.Items You Must Bring to <strong>the</strong> ExamPrior to sitting for any exam you will be required to bring and to temporarily surrender to anexam proctor your valid, government issued, photo identific<strong>at</strong>ion document. Acceptable photoidentific<strong>at</strong>ion documents include a driver’s license (or a non-driver photo identific<strong>at</strong>iondocument), passport or immigr<strong>at</strong>ion green card. The driver’s license or non-driver photoidentific<strong>at</strong>ion document must be issued by <strong>the</strong> Iowa Department of Transport<strong>at</strong>ion or <strong>the</strong>equivalent agency for non-residents. Your photo identific<strong>at</strong>ion document will be returned to you<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> exam after you have completed <strong>the</strong> required check-out procedures.Items You May Not Bring to <strong>the</strong> ExamDo not bring any of <strong>the</strong> following items to <strong>the</strong> exam:• Any books, study or training m<strong>at</strong>erials, or review notes.• Any type of writing pad, loose leaf binder, notebook, or o<strong>the</strong>r source of paper. Possession or use of any of<strong>the</strong>se items in <strong>the</strong> exam room will result in your immedi<strong>at</strong>e disqualific<strong>at</strong>ion, failure of yourexam and dismissal from <strong>the</strong> exam room. Nei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> pesticide program nor any examproctor will be responsible for <strong>the</strong> loss or damage of any personal property. Prohibiteditems should be left <strong>at</strong> your home, hotel room, vehicle, or o<strong>the</strong>r loc<strong>at</strong>ion, as appropri<strong>at</strong>e.• Food or drink of any kind.Instructions Given by an Exam ProctorYou are expected to follow all instructions given by an exam proctor. Failure to comply with anyexam instructions or requirements may result in your disqualific<strong>at</strong>ion, failure of your exam anddismissal from <strong>the</strong> exam room.Che<strong>at</strong>ingDo not talk with o<strong>the</strong>r candid<strong>at</strong>es while <strong>the</strong> exam is in progress or give or receive any type ofexam assistance. Any evidence of che<strong>at</strong>ing will result in your immedi<strong>at</strong>e disqualific<strong>at</strong>ion, failureof your exam and dismissal from <strong>the</strong> exam room. You may not seek help from an exam proctorto interpret an exam question. An exam proctor will not provide this type of assistance.Challenging an Exam QuestionAll exam questions have been professionally prepared and reviewed. If, however, you wish tochallenge an exam question, you should contact <strong>the</strong> <strong>Pesticide</strong> Bureau, Iowa Department ofAgriculture (515-281-5601) and ask for an Applic<strong>at</strong>ion to Challenge a <strong>Pesticide</strong> <strong>Applic<strong>at</strong>or</strong> ExamQuestion. You will not be allowed to review your exam to prepare a challenge to an examquestion.Exam CheckoutYou must remain se<strong>at</strong>ed until you complete your exam. When you complete your exam, youmust follow <strong>the</strong> exam proctors instructions for checkout.and dismissal from <strong>the</strong> exam room. Youmust promptly exit <strong>the</strong> exam room when directed to leave. Leaving <strong>the</strong> exam room withoutfollowing <strong>the</strong> exam proctors instructions will result in your disqualific<strong>at</strong>ion and termin<strong>at</strong>ion of <strong>the</strong>exam. You will not be allowed to re-enter <strong>the</strong> exam room. If you leave <strong>the</strong> exam room with anyexam m<strong>at</strong>erials, including scr<strong>at</strong>ch paper, we will prosecute <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ft to <strong>the</strong> fullest extentpossible.Upon completing an exam, if you have a passing percentage, (see below) request <strong>the</strong>assistance of a test proctor to record your score. If your passing score is not recorded by <strong>the</strong>test proctor <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> test, you will not receive proof of your passing score <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> testingloc<strong>at</strong>ion. It will be necessary to contact IDALS for proof of your passing score which will delayyour paperwork to apply for certific<strong>at</strong>ion.Commercial <strong>Applic<strong>at</strong>or</strong> Passing Exam Percentage: 80%Priv<strong>at</strong>e <strong>Applic<strong>at</strong>or</strong> Passing Exam Percentage: 70%You must promptly leave <strong>the</strong> testing room when requested by an exam proctor. Page 4 of 4Your Exam Score(s)Your exam will be scored immedi<strong>at</strong>ely <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> completion of <strong>the</strong> exam. Each exam you pass willbe verified by <strong>the</strong> exam proctor and recorded for you on <strong>the</strong> certific<strong>at</strong>ion applic<strong>at</strong>ion formprovided to you. If you do not pass an exam you will not receive any forms.If You Pass Your Exam(s)You will be issued a certific<strong>at</strong>ion applic<strong>at</strong>ion form <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> end of your examin<strong>at</strong>ion session. Thisform will be signed by <strong>the</strong> exam proctor and will verity each exam you have passed. Pleasekeep <strong>the</strong>se forms in a secure place.Upon passing all <strong>the</strong> exams required you may submit copies of <strong>the</strong> certific<strong>at</strong>ion applic<strong>at</strong>ionforms showing which exams you passed along with <strong>the</strong> appropri<strong>at</strong>e fees to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Pesticide</strong>Bureau, Iowa Department of Agriculture to <strong>the</strong> address listed on <strong>the</strong> form. You are only eligiblefor certific<strong>at</strong>ion as a commercial or public applic<strong>at</strong>or when employed by a licensed commercialor public applic<strong>at</strong>or.If You Fail Your Exam(s)You may take any exam once per day.
