The <strong>Champion</strong> • Wednesday 5 September 2012If you are in love with<strong>the</strong> music of 10cc...CMBVisit us @ www.ChampNews.com • 19By David Simister10CC, who are celebrating 40 years in <strong>the</strong>music business, will be at Southport Theatre onThursday, October 18, where fans new and oldwill be able to treat <strong>the</strong>mselves to <strong>the</strong> diverserange of hits from <strong>the</strong> Manchester group’s backcatalogue.Founding member Graham Gouldman told<strong>the</strong> <strong>Champion</strong>: “The people who go to ourperformance in Southport will be able to hearall <strong>the</strong> hits and more, plus a couple of surpriseswe’ve got lined up.“I’ve been to Southport many times beforeand have many memories of visiting <strong>the</strong> town,staying at <strong>the</strong> Prince of Wales Hotel on LordStreet.“It’s amazing how quickly <strong>the</strong> time has gone.“A lot of <strong>the</strong> audience will be people wholistened to us when I’m Not In Love was in <strong>the</strong>charts, but we also have a lot of younger peoplewho come to our shows, who really enjoy ourmusic.”10cc, who recorded <strong>the</strong>ir first album inStockport in 1972, can count no less than 11top ten hits to <strong>the</strong>ir name, including twonumber ones, I’m Not In Love, which topped<strong>the</strong> charts in 1975, and <strong>the</strong> reggae– influencedDreadlock Holiday, which shot to <strong>the</strong> top in1978.Gouldman said that while <strong>the</strong>y admired <strong>the</strong>music of contemporary acts like Roxy Music<strong>the</strong>ir primary influence when <strong>the</strong>y weregrowing up was <strong>the</strong> music of The Beatles,whose diverse range of songs and lyricalinfluences, 10cc later embraced.The band is also well known for splitting intodifferent songwriting teams, with one side of<strong>the</strong> group working on pop songs intended as hitsingles and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r embracing artier, moreeclectic music.
