A S S O C I AT I O N O F B R I T I S H N E U RO LO G I ST A N N U A L C O N F E R E N C EABN AnnualConferenceFor this year's ABN conference we have sole use of the Sage Gateshead,a stunning building overlookingthe River Tyne.We start on the Tuesday afternoon October 4th with the Medical Students Roadshow andABNT session and finish on the Friday afternoon October 7th with a joint session with the British Societyof Neuroradiology. We have received a record number of abstracts and will be able to offer two or threeparallel platform sessions which will alternate with the teaching/science update sessions and main lectures.This year’s ABN medallist is David Neary and the Gordon Holmes lecturer Professor Eva Feldman fromMichigan who will talk on stem cell therapy. The Gala Dinner will be at the Discovery Museum.All in all anexciting programme at a great venue and I look forward to welcoming delegates to the 2011 conference.Martin Rossor,President, ABN.Martin Rossor,President,ABN.Biba StantonBiba Stanton is a neurology SpR inLondon and Chair of theAssociation of BritishNeurologists Trainees' Committee.The meeting will start on the afternoon of Tuesday4th October with sessions for medical studentsand SpRs.The Roadshow for Medical Students andFoundation Year Doctors aims to inform andinspire those considering a career in neurology.Our first Roadshow in Bournemouth last year wasa great success (despite being timed just beforefinals) and we hope that this year’s will be evenbigger and better. The programme includes talkson careers in neurology and neurophysiology aswell as updates on the latest advances in neurologicaltreatments and an interactive panel discussion.Ourfirst dedicated SpR session,sponsored byMerck Serono, aims to complement the mainmeeting with teaching specifically for trainees.Sessions will include oratory and presentationskills, a cognitive examination masterclass andinteractive case-based teaching. The President’squiz will provide a challenge for both theSpRs andthe speakers to make sure they perform as well asthe students! Both sessions will be followed by thisyear's research forum, with talks on grant-writingand academic careers and an opportunity toexplore research opportunities informally duringthe drinks reception.Next year’s annual ABN meeting will be inthe Brighton Centre 28-31 May 2012. Theplenary lectures will be given by neuroophthalmologistJohn Leigh, andpsychiatrist Iain McGilchrist. The medallistlecture will be delivered by Mark Wiles.There will be teaching sessions on HIV,head injury, epilepsy, and neurologicalantibodies, with a neuroscience updatewhich includes talks from Michel Goederton neurodegeneration and proteinopathies,Martin Schwab on regeneration of thenervous system, and Dimitri Kullmann onchannelopathies.
