INTERNSHIP CLASS 485 APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONSThe following steps must be completed to be eligible for enrollment in the <strong>Internship</strong> 485 class:1. Obtain Pre-approval for your <strong>Internship</strong>:All <strong>Internship</strong>s must receive approval from the Director <strong>of</strong> Career Services PRIOR to <strong>Internship</strong> start date.2. Complete an <strong>Internship</strong> Class 485 <strong>Application</strong> Packet in its entirety:• To receive pre-approval stop by the Office <strong>of</strong> Career Services to pick up an <strong>Internship</strong> Class 485 <strong>Application</strong>Packet,• <strong>Student</strong>s are to complete the <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Internship</strong> <strong>Application</strong> and the <strong>Internship</strong> Policies and Procedures formand submit to the Office <strong>of</strong> Career Services,• Have your employer complete and return the <strong>Internship</strong> Provider <strong>Application</strong> to the Office <strong>of</strong> Career Services,• All forms must be completed in their entirety,• Incomplete forms will not be accepted or processed for registration,• <strong>Student</strong>’s application to the class will not be processed until all forms have been submitted to the Office <strong>of</strong>Career Services.3. Evaluation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Internship</strong> position:• Once the <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Internship</strong> <strong>Application</strong>, Signed Policies and Procedures, and the <strong>Internship</strong> Provider<strong>Application</strong> forms have been received by the Office <strong>of</strong> Career Services, a student’s internship will be reviewedfor approval. International <strong>Student</strong>s must submit a letter <strong>of</strong> approval from the CCAD International <strong>Student</strong>Advisor,• The deadline to return a completed <strong>Internship</strong> Class <strong>Application</strong> Packet is the published CCAD add deadlinefor the semester the student will be completing their internship work,• <strong>Internship</strong>s must be worked the semester they appear on a student’s schedule. <strong>Internship</strong>s will NOT beapproved or added after the duration <strong>of</strong> a work assignment has been completed.4. Confirmation:• After a student application has been reviewed, all applicants will receive an email from the Office <strong>of</strong> CareerServices detailing the status <strong>of</strong> their application,• If additional information is needed or if an internship has been denied, the email will provide details andinstructions on what steps to take next.5. Class Registration:• Once an application has received approval, the Director <strong>of</strong> Career Services will add the <strong>Internship</strong> 485 Courseto your schedule. (note: the Director is the only individual able to add this class to your schedule)6. Check IQ Web:The <strong>Internship</strong> 485 Class should appear on your schedule within 24 to 48 hours after you receive emailconfirmation <strong>of</strong> your approval. If you have received an email confirmation <strong>of</strong> approval, have waited 48 hours, andthe internship course does not appear on your schedule, contact the Office <strong>of</strong> Career Services immediately.7. Login in to GoStudio:The <strong>Internship</strong> Class resides on the GoStudio virtual classroom. All class assignments and deadlines are postedon GoStudio. As a registered student, you will receive access to the <strong>Internship</strong> Class 485 the first day <strong>of</strong> thesemester for which you are enrolled. You are required to log in during the first week <strong>of</strong> semester, read the classsyllabus, and complete the <strong>Internship</strong> Coursework Agreement. This form is due to the Office <strong>of</strong> Career Servicesby the due date stated in the <strong>Internship</strong> 485 Syllabus and on the GoStudio Classroom calendar. <strong>Student</strong>s whodo not complete and submit the <strong>Internship</strong> Coursework Agreement by the due date will automatically be droppedfrom the class and their internship provider will be notified.8. Complete <strong>Internship</strong> CourseworkBe sure to complete all internship coursework by the due dates outlined in the syllabus. One half <strong>of</strong> the class requirements are on-site work hours the other half <strong>of</strong> the classrequirements are journals, papers, presentations, and other learning measures.<strong>Internship</strong> Course 485 Description:The internship class provides practical field experience as a direct extension <strong>of</strong> classroom theory. The structure <strong>of</strong> thecourse is designed to enrich your learning while gaining pr<strong>of</strong>essional experience. The internship is aimed at helpingstudents increase and develop their knowledge base while providing the opportunity to apply classroom theory toactual problems in a “real-world” setting over the course <strong>of</strong> a semester. Your internship application must be receivedand approved by the Director <strong>of</strong> Career Services by the CCAD course add date deadline for the semester youwould like to complete your internship. Once approved, the Office <strong>of</strong> Career Services will add the internship class toyour academic schedule for the semester in which you are completing the internship. Complete the <strong>Internship</strong> Seminar RequirementsGrade: The internship class is based on a pass/fail grading system. A student must complete all <strong>of</strong> the classrequirements in order to earn a passing grade. It is the student’s responsibility to adhere to any and all updates sentduring the semester the internship is being completed.<strong>Internship</strong> Syllabus:Registered students will receive access to GoStudio during the first week <strong>of</strong> each semester. The class syllabus will beavailable on GoStudio, the internship class’ virtual classroom. All class assignments and deadlines will be distributedin the GoStudio virtual classroom.485.921.2011


<strong>Internship</strong> Policies & ProceduresWhen applying for an internship for credit, student agrees to the following:All <strong>Internship</strong>s must be reviewed and approved by the Director <strong>of</strong> Career Services prior to startdate.• <strong>Student</strong> must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.• <strong>Student</strong>s will register for internship credit by the first week <strong>of</strong> the semester in which the internshiptakes place. Under certain circumstances (i.e. summer internships or internships which beginafter midterm <strong>of</strong> the current semester), the internship credit will be registered for the followingsemester. Prior approval by the Director <strong>of</strong> Career Services is required for such circumstancesand confirmation <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer and start date from the hiring company is required.• <strong>Internship</strong>s are a credit course and drop/add deadlines for scheduling apply.• <strong>Internship</strong>s must be directly related to student’s current major.• <strong>Student</strong> must complete the <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Internship</strong> <strong>Application</strong> and have the <strong>Internship</strong> Provider<strong>Application</strong> signed by employer and Director <strong>of</strong> Career Services prior to starting the internship.• <strong>Student</strong> will submit to Career Services a completed <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Internship</strong> <strong>Application</strong> and a completed<strong>Internship</strong> Provider <strong>Application</strong> by the applicable term’s registration deadline for adding classes.• <strong>Student</strong> understands while on their internship, they are representatives <strong>of</strong> CCAD and will conductthemselves pr<strong>of</strong>essionally and in a manner deserving such an esteemed institution at all times.• <strong>Student</strong> must work at a minimum <strong>of</strong> 120 on-the-job hours at the internship and the internship mustlast the duration <strong>of</strong> the semester.• An intern may be terminated at any time, and if asked to leave a position, the student agrees to doso with in a calm, pr<strong>of</strong>essional manner.• <strong>Student</strong> acquires the signed and completed Provider Evaluation <strong>of</strong> Intern and submits it to CareerServices during the closing seminar.• <strong>Student</strong> completes the <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Internship</strong> Evaluation and submits to Career Services deadlinestated for the semester the internship is being completed.• <strong>Student</strong> must complete the <strong>Internship</strong> Journals and reflection paper as well as present andparticipate in the <strong>Internship</strong> Seminar at the end <strong>of</strong> the applicable semester to reflect upon theexperience and learn from other interns.• Each internship experience equals 1.5 credits for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 3.0 credits for the BFA at CCAD.• <strong>Student</strong> pays for each internship credit if the credit is applied during a term <strong>of</strong> less than fulltimeenrollment.• <strong>Student</strong> may apply internship credit to internship requirement or studio/art electives.• <strong>Internship</strong>s that begin before midterm <strong>of</strong> a given semester can be credited to the current semesterwith approval from Career Services. <strong>Student</strong>s should schedule an appointment with the director <strong>of</strong>Career Services for review and approval in such circumstances.CCAD Career Services—careers@ccad.edu—614-437-7487—www.ccadcareers.com


• <strong>Internship</strong>s that begin after midterm <strong>of</strong> a given semester will be credited to the following semester.<strong>Student</strong>s still must complete the appropriate paperwork before the internship begins (i.e. obtainingthe provider’s signature and the Director’s approval signature before starting work).• <strong>Internship</strong>s that occur during the summer can be tuition deferred to the following Fall semester.The <strong>Internship</strong> is still considered a summer internship and students are expected to complete theappropriate paperwork before the internship begins (i.e. obtaining the provider’s signature and theDirector’s approval signature before starting work, completing <strong>Internship</strong> assignments during thesummer, etc.).• <strong>Internship</strong>s that will continue after the end <strong>of</strong> the current semester still need closure for coursecredit. <strong>Student</strong>s should schedule to meet with the supervisor to request feedback and formalevaluation.
