PROCEDURE FOR THE GENERAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS <strong>2007</strong>These procedures are derived from the simplified Rulesapproved at the Special General Meeting held just prior tothe Bisley General Meeting, 2005.Eligibility of Candidates and ProposersOnly persons who are Registered Members ofthe <strong>Association</strong> and who have fully paid-up theirsubscriptions for <strong>2007</strong> by 31 March are eligible to beCandidates for election to the General Council and tobe Proposers for such Candidates.Casual Vacancies – Two Ordinary MembersThere are two casual vacancies for General Councilfor the term expiring in 2009. There are accordinglyseven vacancies for ‘Ordinary’ elected members. Inaccordance with precedent, in the event of there beingan election (more than seven candidates), the twoindividuals among the seven successful candidateswith the lowest number of votes will be deemedselected for the two-year terms. If there are six orseven candidates, there will not be an election andlots will be drawn to determine who fills the casualvacancies for two years. If there are five or fewercandidates, there will not be an election and thosepersons will fill the routine vacancies of the OrdinaryMembers retiring in 2010.Regional and Shooting Discipline Candidature andVotingThose voting for Regional Candidates must live inthe appropriate Sports Council Region even thoughtheir nominated Candidates for election may liveelsewhere.Those voting for Shooting Discipline Candidates musthave previously declared that Shooting Discipline tothe <strong>NRA</strong> as their primary Shooting Discipline.Eligibility for voting will be determined as at 30 April<strong>2007</strong>.Nomination forms for Candidates and Proposers withan explanation of the procedures for nominations, areavailable from the Secretary General’s office.Curriculum VitaeIn order to assist the Registered Members with theirchoice of representatives in the election, a CV for eachCandidate will be provided with the voting papers. Adraft of no more than 150 words should accompanythe nomination. A passport sized photograph of theCandidate will accompany all CVs. A content layoutfor the CVs is on the pro forma.The Secretary General will refer back to authors whereCVs are too long or are, or appear to be, factuallyincorrect.The Programme of key dates for Elections31 March <strong>2007</strong>All Candidates and Proposers must be fully paid-upRegistered Members of the <strong>Association</strong> by this date.30 April <strong>2007</strong>a) Nominations for all vacancies must be returnedto the Secretary General by 17:00 on this date.b) Registered Members must be qualified forvoting for their respective Regional or ShootingDiscipline Candidate by this date.c) All Members desiring to vote must be fully paidupRegistered Members by this date.31 May <strong>2007</strong>Voting slips will be posted to all entitled Members bythis date together with the procedures for voting.23 July <strong>2007</strong>Voting slips, in the correct envelope supplied, mustbe received by the <strong>NRA</strong> office by mail, or by hand, nolater than 18:00 on this date.Scrutineers appointed by the CouncilTo be notified after the Council Meeting on 26 April<strong>2007</strong>.Routine VacanciesThere will be the following vacancies in <strong>2007</strong>, all ofwhom are entitled to stand for re-election.Five Ordinary MembersJH CarmichaelARK ClaytonM MaksimovicMrs KD RobertsonMWT Walton *Four Regional MembersMJM BlackDr JD WarburtonDD WattDG YoungNorthernYorks/HumbersideEasternNorth WesternThree Shooting Discipline MembersJPS Bloomfield Target <strong>Rifle</strong>Dr P Monaghan F ClassD SpittlesMuzzle LoadingExisting VacanciesTwo Ordinary MembersLondon & South East Regional Member* not standing for re-election.59
