OBITUARIESTerence MichaelGadsbyTerry Gadsby was bornin Aldershot on 7 July1937. Later his familymoved to CrookhamVillage in Hampshire,and he went to OdihamGrammar School. Afterhis National Service hecontinued his educationat Reading University,reading for an MA in Agricultural Land Management.He then took up a post with the Greater London Council,where he became a Chartered Surveyor and ChiefLand Agent, being responsible for the preservation andmanagement of the Greenbelt around London.Terry had many interests which included wood turning,ornithology and philately; because of his professionalexpertise he immersed himself in village life and thepreservation of the local countryside. In sport, he wasa keen golfer and for over thirty years played hockeyfor Guildford.He became a member of the NRA in the early 1960sand was Honorary Secretary for the Hampshire RifleAssociation for nearly fifteen years, organising the HRAOpen Prize Meeting helped by his wife Jean and othermembers.Essentially a fullbore shot he later turned to Match Rifle.He was very proud of representing Hampshire on anumber of occasions during the 1970s and particularlyof being in the KGV and Astor winning squads in 1973and 1974 respectively. He was a team player and wasalways prepared to help and support other members inthe County. He was a member of the City Rifle Club andthe South London RC.When he was diagnosed as having Alzheimer’s Diseasehis reply was “Someone’s got to have it!” - a remark thatwas typical of Terry. He bore his illness with fortitudeand although no longer actively shooting was preparedto reminisce about shooting and the many friends heremembered. He died on 22 October 2006He leaves Jean, stepson Julian and grandsons Ryan andLuke.Michael MartelMargaret WrightIt is with great sadness that we report the passing ofMargaret Wright.Margaret was a keen member of the Northwood andLittle Chalfont Rifle clubs, and had recently celebratedher 73rd birthday shooting fullbore at Bisley.Her helpful and calming nature will be missed by allwho knew her.A memorial trophy has been presented to her homeclub at Little Chalfont and will be shot for on an annualbasis.Our condolences are extended to her family andfriends.Geoff RoadsAlan CollinsAlan Collins, a staunchm e m b e r o f B u l l e tLodge Rifle Club untilhe became ill withthe dreadful MotorN e u r o n e D i s e a s ewhich he bore withgreat fortitude, passedaway on 23 November.He was earlier a longstandingmember ofthe erstwhile BarclaysBank Rifle Club andhe made many useful shooting contributions to bothclubs. He was always a good team member and a strongcontender in all internal competitions and many ImperialMeetings but was always modest about his ability andachievements. Alan was also a keen smallbore shot withFlight Refuelling Rifle Club. His average was in the highnineties and he was a competitor at County level. Apartfrom shooting, Alan was a keen bowler in a club at hishome town of Verwood in Dorset.Before he retired Alan was Chief Engineer at BarclaysHouse, the triple-tower former headquarters of BarclaysBank International at Poole, promoted some years earlierfrom a similar position at the 168 Fenchurch Street,London building. He was highly skilled in his professionand those skills were often of great benefit at BulletLodge. A problem with the plumbing? The electrics?Alan could always be relied upon to sort it and to ensurethat a programme of general upkeep was maintained.He was born a Londoner, in 1928, and the memories ofhis roots were precious to him, especially those of thewartime blitz. He was keen to ensure that his childrenand seven grandchildren knew what life in Londonwas like during those dark months by the many storieshe could relate. He was essentially a Londoner whohappened to live in Dorset.Alan was much loved by his family and will beremembered by his shooting associates as a cheerfulfriend and companion and a social asset. PROCEDURE FOR THE GENERAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2007These procedures are derived from the simplified Rulesapproved at the Special General Meeting held just prior tothe Bisley General Meeting, 2005.Eligibility of Candidates and ProposersOnly persons who are Registered Members ofthe Association and who have fully paid-up theirsubscriptions for 2007 by 31 March are eligible to beCandidates for election to the General Council and tobe Proposers for such Candidates.Casual Vacancies – Two Ordinary MembersThere are two casual vacancies for General Councilfor the term expiring in 2009. There are accordinglyseven vacancies for ‘Ordinary’ elected members. Inaccordance with precedent, in the event of there beingan election (more than seven candidates), the twoindividuals among the seven successful candidateswith the lowest number of votes will be deemedselected for the two-year terms. If there are six orseven candidates, there will not be an election andlots will be drawn to determine who fills the casualvacancies for two years. If there are five or fewercandidates, there will not be an election and thosepersons will fill the routine vacancies of the OrdinaryMembers retiring in 2010.Regional and Shooting Discipline Candidature andVotingThose voting for Regional Candidates must live inthe appropriate Sports Council Region even thoughtheir nominated Candidates for election may liveelsewhere.Those voting for Shooting Discipline Candidates musthave previously declared that Shooting Discipline tothe NRA as their primary Shooting Discipline.Eligibility for voting will be determined as at 30 April2007.Nomination forms for Candidates and Proposers withan explanation of the procedures for nominations, areavailable from the Secretary General’s office.Curriculum VitaeIn order to assist the Registered Members with theirchoice of representatives in the election, a CV for eachCandidate will be provided with the voting papers. Adraft of no more than 150 words should accompanythe nomination. A passport sized photograph of theCandidate will accompany all CVs.
